This is indeed unfortunate for the Bison.

Here's to wishing Mr. Coleman a speedy recovery.

What a bad way to finish your college career. Maybe he can get healthy enough to make an appearance towards the end of the season.

The SDSM&T Hardrockers (no, not a band from the 70s) announced yestereday they had picked up a transfer from NDSU: Caleb Shockman of LaMoure, N.D. According to the press release, he is 6-6 and was a redshirt freshman in 08-09 for the Bison. He'll be eligible after the Christmas break.

        I don't recall the kid.

I see the Bison roster for the upcoming season lists 13 players.

Shockman was a walk-on at NDSU. He is a good kid and his dad played for the Bison, but it was unlikely he would have seen the floor.

Freddy Coleman is only a JR so he will have 1 yr left after this year.

According to the paper, he is a fifth-year senior. Guess I shouldn't have trusted a reporter. :-)

I thought Coleman, other than Tvedt was about the only reserve that complimented the starting fablous five. This will hurt this year. As I recall he came the same year as Tvedt.

That is correct. Coleman and Tveidt came in the same year, both red-shirted and both are currently juniors. I agree with you that the loss of Coleman is very significant for the Bison. I thought he would be one of two players (with Tveidt) that could be counted on to score, and he is a great athlete who can rebound and defend, too.

Realistically, the Bison are obviously in rebuilding mode right now. They may be a mid-pack team in the Summit because several teams look to be down. Like the Jacks, the future looks very bright for the Bison with a very good freshman class, and another good recruiting class in the making. I look for NDSU and SDSU to both be in the mix for conference titles in the years to come.

This second paragraph hits the nail on the head. Both SDSU and NDSU have better classes coming in than in previous years(other than Woody's class). I don't think the men's teams will be quite as dominate as the women's. I think only Oakland has a women's team that can compete where the men have Oral Roberts, Oakland and maybe another team. Anybody who doesn't like the additions of NDSU and SDSU must be scared of the competition. Those 2 schools have elevated the league in several sports.
