Name an investment that has not declined by 20 per cent or more since last October and you probably have a guy named Madoff running it.
I want to know how much of that endowment was invested in equities and high risk/high yield bonds. Conservative investment strategies for institutional investing seems to be a thing of the past.

During the lending crisis, even AAA mutual funds(lowest risk) took huge hits because of the damn credit default swaps. Your portfolio could have been loaded with low risk investments and it still would've taken a huge hit. There was too much money floating around looking for stable investments and the CDS's filled the void. Stupid. And we're stuck with a wrecked economy because of it.
UMKC is suppose to be adding baseball in 2011-12 season.
Now that's some good news. We shouldn't have to add an affiliate baseball member now to keep our autobid. Do you know if this was coming before Centenary's decision or as a response to it?

If I were paid to manage an endowment (or pension fund, etc.) no way would I class my exposure in CDSes as the same as government/blue chip bonds.
Of course, the larger issue was the process by which those CDSes were classed as low risk/investment grade when all one had to do was look at the fragility of the underlying assumptions to know better.

BTW: If I read the NCAA regs correctly, the Summit just barely squeaks by on baseball. There needs to be 2 years of competitive play by any new program in order for it to count toward the minimum of 6. It appears those two years overlap the two year grace period exactly.

This would be my understanding, and I dont think the managers could have reacted quickly enough to make a differences. The crew could not turn the Titantic around when it was heading towards a huge ice breaker so I would not expect anything less of the folks at Centenary.
I am hardly an expert in managing financial funds for a foundation, but if you went to the foundation office at SDSU, I am sure some one who has the knowledge and experience could tell you how they manage the funds. Its not an easy job, and you have to really be up on a thousand details. That is a job I would not want, especially at Centenary where everything is a very tight budget even under the most normal circumstances.
Yeah I know we should not have scheduled South West Minnesota state either.
