  • SDSU & USD Basketball Schedule Talk!

I was informed today , by some USD guys who have the inside Info that SDSU was going to play USD next year in women's basketball for the first game of the year but then wanted to push back in Novemeber, but that fell apart, but the are planning a home and home in 2010 and 2011. Boosters from USD said that the women would kill USD right now since they redshirted the good players but in 2 years it would be a game.

The SDSU men supposedly would not even talk schedule with USD. USD boosters said that the USD men would beat State!

Take it for what it is worth! Anyone else have anything!

I've heard the rumblings AND the grumblings.

I continue to assume D I programs try to have schedules which are as much to their advantage as possible. (I do not equate advantage with ease of scheduling: e.g. our football team doesn't shy away from tough opponents.) I think our women's program is at the point where some schools are not excited about scheduling the Jackrabbits and therefore some dates may be a little harder to fill. The men's program, as it continues its ascendency to greatness, may have an easier time finding good opponents and hence, has fewer open dates. I don't buy the grumblings of some of my Coyote friends (SDSU women willing to schedule USD because USD down while SDSU men will not schedule USD because USD men up -- I'm not buying that.)

I can quite easily see Uot fans thinking they could beat State. I mean, we lost 20 this year and they won 20, right?

A closer look at the schedules is needed.....

        Who did USD beat:
Chowan, Graceland, Panhandle State, Chadron St, Dana, Midland Lutheran, Minn-Duluth, St. Olaf, SW Minn State, Mayville St, Valley City St, William Penn, Mt.. Marty, Palm Beach Atlantic, UND, Lake Erie College, SIU Edwardsville, SIU Edwardsville, New Orleans.

        They also lost to:
Post, Cornell, W Texas A&M, UND, Notre Dame, Cincy, Seattle (twice), SIU Edwardsville and UND.

Sorry.....but that's pathetic, just plain pathetic. Whoever came up with that schedule should be ashamed. Notre Dame and Cincy were the only two resectable programs, BY FAR, on that whole schedule. I would darn well hope you can get 20 wins (which they barely did playing more home games than road games). You USD fans couldn't beat SDSU LAST year, let alone this year. You lose Grimsley, Becker and Begeman. Gawwwd.

I think that's kind of a bad rap. In SDSU's transition year they played Mayville, the two Wayne States, Buena Vista, Morningside, Bellevue, Winona (who could probably could have made a run at the Summit title in many years), Upper Iowa, two Puerto Rican teams and a 38 point loss to SW Minnesota. I don't see a lot of difference, except SDSU played a few harder teams on the top end-- maybe not a good idea since it may have discouraged them.

USD was a non counter last year (meaning that beating them didn't count towards RPI), so there is no reason to go after their scheduling, as they really couldn't do much else. However, it is one thing to have that schedule, but it's another to talk up the 20 wins from that schedule. USD fans should be proud that they had a winning record in their first year of DI, however, don't be holding it up over other people's heads like it was a feat of epic proportion either.

              I think SDSU played a much tougher schedule in the year in question;

              SDSU played Butler, Manhattan, U Illinois-Chicago, UW-Milwaukee,
Marquette, Tennessee St, San Diego St, NDSU (twice), UMKC, Arkansas St, Colorado and UCF in the transition year. That's 11 D1 schools and two games against a transition D1 school. Look at both schedules, I don't think you can even compare the two.

USD has played pathetic football and basketball schedules since they decided to follow, pathetic.

Re: SDSU & USD Basketball Schedule Talk!

Nagy was quoted in the argus explaining it..... he said that USD wants a home and home and SDSU is at a point that they only want a home game and USD could make a lot more playing a guarentee then playing at brookings.... I look at USD and thought maybe this year they could be SDSU and that was before SDSU beat Oakland, and beat ORU..... USD lost more then SDSU this year and has better recruits coming in over the near future....

Not really weighing in either way on this subject, but the mention of using facts to support arguments reminded me of a recent column in The Onion, which is undoubtedly America's smartest newspaper, satirical or otherwise. I read this and immediately thought of politics and sports.
