Commissioner's Cup 2009

The Summit League has the Commissioner's Cup award that goes to the university with the highest placement in conference play for all sports, both men's and women's. For example in Women's volleyball, there are 9 teams and the team that finishes in 1st place during the regular season is awarded 9 points, 2nd place gets 8 points etc. The league also has an award for the best men's and women's conference teams. The university with the best men's all sports team is awarded the Dr. William Steinbrecher award. The women's all sports team is awarded the Dr. Helen Smiley award.

These rankings are only allocated after a season is ended, so this only reflects the fall sports? The winter sports won't be counted until late February/early March when those seasons end.

Jacks/Bison do poorly in the fall sports for men, as the Summit counts mens VB and soccer in that timeframe. Golf, an area the Jacks are likely to do well, is a spring sport.

NorCalJack uses the current standings in underway seasons as well the final standings in completed seasons to create his lists. The posted numbers will continue to change as the basketball season progresses. Most of the rankings in the other sports are determined by the conference championships(T&F, Golf, etc.), so there's no way to update those until the seasons' end.

I will update the standings after each winter and spring sport has been completed. I think Swimming and Diving has their championships next. When they are complete I will update again. Same with Track and Field, Golf, Baseball, etc. until the year is complete.

I will try and update again in the next few weeks because in WBB, there is currently a three way tie for first and a 5 way tie for fourth place. So in a few weeks, these ties will go away and the standings may change a litte as teams separate themselves in the standings. There just have not been enough games in BB to distinguish a clear cut standings.

I don't believe men's VB is a sponsored sport in the Summit League.

Thanks for the update. The men's sports total of 13 really caught my eye and if we have some good showings in Golf, track and field, we could move up some. The women seem to be making the most progress.

SDSU and Western Illinois are the only two schools that participate in all of the remaining sports for this year. This should help us maintain or move up in the standings since we will get points in all of the remaining sports. WIU participates in all Summit League sports and SDSU all but men's soccer for the year.

Well I updated the standings through April 21st. Look at the first post for the current standings. We still have the Men's golf and Men's/Women's Outdoor Track and Field sports that will be determined in the near future. I believe the Baseball and Softball standings could still change slightly as there are a few more games to be played. Other than those team sports, I think everything else is a final.

With the UMKC fortfeiture of games, SDSU should move up to a three tie for fifth place in basketball which will give us another point and adjust some of the others as well. I assume the forfeiture affects the official standings and the Commissioners cup. (I dn't think you have adjusted for tht.)

As much as I would like to change the standings, at this point the forfeiture of games is only a rumor started by someone on the UMKC fan site. I have not seen anything on the Summit League website or GoJacks.com. The standings for Men's BB has not change and if or when they do I will change the standings at that time. Meanwhile everything will remain status quo.
