Midco Sports Layoffs

One thing I find interesting is the number of people on Twitter/FB and the local fan forums who were proud to tell the world they were not going to pay the outrageous $30 for 3 months of Midco streaming service now acting outraged about the Midco talent layoffs.

This is a move to emulate the ESPN+ model of using the local university "talent" for the broadcast. Of course, not all is the same level. Many universities use students to get their feet wet. Often times I shake my head with these young people as they get that experience. The camera people often need more training too. The charge will still be there for Midco/SLN. Hopefully the wrinkles will be ironed out as they go forward. This past year with Midco/SLN has actually over delivered for broadcast talent compared to ESPN+. It is just limited choices.
