  • Summit League 2023-24

The Golden Eagles were handled in Tulsa by the Tommies. 87-76 Omaha wins in OT against Bison. UND gets a win in Kansas City. It will be an interesting season as this begins.

SDSU men's road win at St. Thomas will loom large in the conference race this year.

Agreed. After a few games, St. Thomas, Denver and SDSU look like the teams to beat on the men's side.

Omaha may want to vote on a spot as well.

Bison women lose in Tulsa. Bison are 4-1 & ORU is 5-1. A win for the Jackrabbits leaves them alone at top. Go Jacks!!

The conference race is definitely in race mode as last place ORU is only 3 games out of first. If the prediction of 4 losses for first place is accurate, all the teams still qualify. The schedule this week for the Jackrabbits include a home game against the 2-3 Roos followed by a quick trip to Tulsa for Saturday against 2-4 ORU. The 2nd place teams, St Thomas & Denver, have a pair of home games. NDSU has a lone game Thursday at St Thomas before the next Thursday at Brookings. The money SL spent for professional schedulers leaves one with many head scratchers. There is more parity this season than some, but the scheduling may have helped this as well. [Once again, we can thank WIU for the scramble on scheduling. The exit fee from the SL should help toward a replacement school/team.] I have not watched enough of non-Jackrabbit games to notice if teams are getting better as conference play continues. The Jackrabbits MBB seems to be trending better as offensive flow improves and defense is stiffening as well.

What I find confusing are the one game road trips like the men have this week. In the past, a road trip to the southern schools would be a Thursday/Saturday trip to ORU and KC. Doesn't make sense to go to Tulsa now and return to Kansas City later in the season.

The Summit League needs another team. Having nine teams creates scheduling quirks, especially at tournament time.

That shouldn't affect situations like this week. Our women are also playing ORU and KC. No reason for our men not tp play two road games with the women playing at home, or vice versa. Now it will be 4 southern plane trips instead of two.

WBB should have some definition this week as ORU[5-1] comes to Frost for a Sunday matinee while NDSU hosts St Thomas[3-2] on Thursday. The bison[4-1] are undefeated[7-0] at home this season. Those are the 4 top teams in the SL standing. ORU & SDSU both have a Thursday road game[vs Omaha & KC] before they meet on Sunday which will be important for both teams regardless of the earlier contests. Omaha remains the only team without a conference win. The bison vs Tommies will decide if there is a 4 team race or 3 team race.

Having doubleheaders with WBB and MBB traveling together would help attendance and TV streaming. Summit League IMO needs 3 more teams. Several teams in our conference would leave given the oppurtunity (Denver, ORU, UMKC). Puts the Summit League in a dangerous position

Omaha leads at Denver by 24 with 6 minutes to go. The Mavs are hot and the Pios are not. The Denver announcers are blaming the 2OT.

This is a big week for getting definition to the league race for the men. St Thomas is on the road for a couple of tough games at KC & Omaha. NDSU has the Jackrabbits and Fhawks on the road. Denver travels to KC & ORU. UND is on road to Vermillion before the rival game at home. The yotes are the only team with 5 losses. It is likely another team or two will be joining the yotes for the lower half of the standings. 4 losses may be a moving target for the top 2 teams come SLT. It should be a great week to get to Frost Arena as the weather is cooperating for travel.

HC Karius will not be traveling to Denver with the WBB yotes as she is expecting a baby soon. Mike Jewett will be taking over HC duties while the yotes are on the road.

From what I've seen, that might be advantage JSD. And I don't say that to be mean, just haven't been impressed with her in-game adjustments and sideline demeanor.
