    Stacking up Mid-Con salaries

    Jeff Kolpack, The Forum
    Published Monday, February 12, 2007

When North Dakota State joins the Mid-Continent Conference next year, Bison basketball teams will be virtually guaranteed to finish near the top. In coaching salaries.

If NDSU was in the league this year, women’s head coach Amy Ruley would be the highest paid in terms of base salary of the six public Mid-Con schools by more than $24,000. She makes $117,000. Western Illinois head coach Leslie Crane earns $92,820.

NDSU head coach Tim Miles, meanwhile, would rank third of the six public schools behind Indiana Purdue-Indianapolis head coach Ron Hunter and Oakland University (Mich.) head coach Greg Kampe. Hunter makes $125,038, Kampe $122,500 and Miles $117,000.  .  .  .  (read more)

    Re: Mid-Con salaries

I have a copy of the print edition for Monday Feb 12, 2007 in my hand. The Forum apparently chose not to post a graphic chart listing individual coaches and the amounts that they received.

SDSU coaches salaries are not mentioned in the article, but the chart discloses that Scot Nagy is receiving $101, 352 dollars and is fifth out of eight for men coaches. Aaron Johnson's salary is the closest to Amy Ruley.

Here is what the men's and women coaches receive:
    1 IUPUI
    Ro Hunter
    $125,038

    2. Oakland U.
    Greg Kampe
    $122,500

    3. NDSU
    Miles
    $115,000.

    4. Western Illinois

    6. IPFW

    8. Southern Utah
    Steve Hodson
    $51,976
Oral Roberts and Centenary, no information available.

It makes you wonder if these numbers had impact when we were considered for conference membership. As far as head basketball coaches, we are doing better than most existing members of the Mid Cont.

Now that you have my curiosity up, I wonder how NDSU and SDSU stacks up in the Gateway Conference. It would be nice to know prior to the meeting on next week.

        Re: Mid-Con salaries

This is a lot more competitive than the SDSU salaries bandied around this board just a couple of months ago. Things must have changed for the 06-07 contract year. Glad to see it.
