  • Summit WBB 2021-2022

It was a tough night for Summit. The Jackrabbits were the only win among the league. Coyotes lost a 73-71 game to Oklahoma in Vermillion. Watson and Krull shot 2-20 from the field while the team was 13-22 from the free throw line. 3106 was the listed attendance. Meanwhile Omaha lost at Iowa State, UMKC lost at SMU, Denver lost at Air Force, UND lost at Weber St, & Oral Roberts lost to UNLV in Tulsa.

I was hoping this season our Summit teams could win some more OOC games ,other than SDSU, USD and ORU we didn't fare too well showing the Summit off . Kinda harsh I guess , but it was just game one and there's plenty of other chances coming. We have to project as a stronger conference to get the respect we desire from the other conferences, so lets go Summit.

USD goes 1-2 in their Thanksgiving tournament and has the same record (3-4) as the Jacks. Looks like the Summit will be back to being a 1 bid league this season.

We have arrived at the end of the OOC & beginning of the Summit. There are a few mild surprises in the records at this point.
            1) Kansas City Roos are 10-1 to lead among the OOC. The highlight win might be the home win over Wyoming. The loss was at SMU. The balance of the wins do not look like major wins. The Jackrabbits will find if the 77 points by the Roos are what to expect in conference. They start 5 senior/grad athletic players.
2)WIU Leathernecks come in at 9-2. Notre Dame & Incarnate Word are the losses. WIU defeated 3 other Illinois directional schools. Denver is the first opponent in Macomb.
3)USD is 7-4. The losses are all against quality teams. They have Drake and Creighton wins to their credit. ORU hosts yotes to test their luck this week.
4)UND is 6-5. Hawks have beaten Montana State as their quality win. The first week is against the Bison in Grand Forks.
5)Denver is 5-6. Pios were beaten soundly by Wichita St & Wyoming. Their bigger win was 4OT over Butler(0-10).
6)ORU is 5-6. Eagles have been handled well in the losses except Tarleton who they played close. Abilene Christian is their big win. They always play the yotes tough which they can show in Tulsa as first conference game.
7)Omaha is 4-5. They played a tough OOC including KState, Ia State, Creighton, Kansas, & Weber St. There are 4 seniors and 2 juniors still on Coach Banks squad. The Mavs go to St Thomas to begin conference.
8)SDSU is 4-7. The Roos will host the Jackrabbits to begin the conference.
9)NDSU is 4-6. Bison have had a tough OOC. Green Bay, KState, UNI, Montana, Arizona, & Wyoming have a win against the Bison. Milwaukee & Bradley are the wins. They start with 3 road games at the FHawks and then SDSU & USD. Coach Jory Collins needs a win against UND.
            10) St Thomas is 3-7. Wisconsin, UNI, Idaho St, & Illinois St are among their losses. S Carolina St and Chicago St are the D1 wins. 7 freshmen and 2 sophomores are within this roster. I do not see any transfers on the roster. 3 grad/seniors are on the roster. Alum Coach Ruth Sinn has 355-88 record at St Thomas. Omaha and Denver travel to St Paul for the Tommies first Summit contests.

The Summit begins early this season. It will be entertaining to see how this list starts moving or not.

1432 loyal Golden Eagle fans watched the yotes put on a clinic in Tulsa. Yotes 90 ORU 59 The yotes had 22 assists, 8 turnovers, 6 blocks, & 13 steals while shooting 58%.
WIU held home court against Denver winning 72-66. 36% shooting on 74 shots for the winner. 55% free throw average is concerning for the Leathernecks in close ones.
St Thomas hosted Omaha for first game in Summit. Omaha 61 Tommies 55 Omaha shot 19--27 at the charity stripe while St Thomas was 1-2. The Tommies made 4 more field goals than the Mavs.

I watched the first half for quite a bit. "1432" is that a misprint? 143 looked closer, unless everyone sat outside of the camera view?

There is a close game in Kansas City. Sjerven went to the bench with 2 fouls in first quarter. Yotes were up 20-7 after 1. Without Sjerven in the paint, the Roos have tied the game at half 31-31.

The Kansas City game at Omaha has been cancelled in addition to the ORU game at Denver.

Well, it is difficult to figure out the Leathernecks who come into conference play 8-2. They sweep the first week at home against Omaha & Denver. The 2nd week brings the Tommies into Macomb and they drop 2OT game 66-64 as the Tommies and Leathernecks are 2-1 tied for 2nd place.
The Golden Eagles play a great 4th quarter to down Mavs 50-45 in Omaha.
Yotes continue to pound another ND school 65-38.
KC & Denver have 2 no contests this week as both teams are under covid protocol.

The Yotes and Jacks appear to be the cream that will continue to rise to the top. After that who knows, but KC and NDSU seem to be the best of the rest.

NDSU lost to UST last night. I really thought last year their program was turning a corner. Instead they continue to unravel.

Don't look now, but UND is in 3rd place with a 5-3 conference record and a 11-8 overall record. They have a 5 game winning streak. They play UMKC tomorrow and the Jacks head to Grand Forks on Thursday.

I have a feeling they will go from 5-3 to 5-6 and think "well, that changed quickly." That being said, that's a nice turn around for them. Borowicz is likely a 1st team player this year.
