I don't think the LetsGoDu article is negative about the Dakotas - the question is: 'Does Sanford Health, a major sponsor, influence the selection of a new conference member in a way that benefits all the conference and members over the long-term?" If the Summit League was Colorado-centric and Coors played the same role as Sanford, I guarantee the Dakotas schools would be asking lots of questions. Long term, this relationship will backfire for the Summit League.

How messed up is our healthcare system when a "non-profit" hospital throws money around like Sanford does? A quarter million to each school for an endowment scholarship? We have people in this country that literally can't afford health insurance yet we allow a non-profit to do stuff like this.

I'm not a financial expert but I thought they have to get rid of the money to show they are non-profit, otherwise the terminology doesn't make sense to me....yes they all overcharge, agree on that,just don't make a huge profit in the first place and give your patients affordable health care instead?..... Sounds logical.

My point exactly. If they have this much excess cash they could lower prices and benefit a much larger percentage of society other than a handful of student athletes at Summit League schools.

This is America where the market does wonderful things such as this. I agree Sanford should do more to benefit the general population who often end up being Sanford clients. Are you reading this Kelby? Probably not. I am very certain that all member schools of the Summit League did not return the gifts. They are very much like the Casblanca cop who closed the casino because there was gambling going on and of course he did not refuse to take his winnings. We are all in this together I fear.

The column by the Denver fan is interesting. It illustrates the risk of the Summit becoming even more Dakota-centric. The conference recently lost Fort Wayne, which will reduce the league's national footprint and possibly its stature. Who's next? Western Illinois? Denver? In the long run, the addition of Augustana could make the league less stable, not more stable. It might be time for SDSU to start lobbying the Missouri Valley for basketball and other non-football sports.

Until SDSU has an average men's basketball attendance over 4-5,000, MVC membership is probably a non-starter.

Turning the Summit League into the Sanford League is not a good idea long-term, imho.

The DU fans seem to be somewhat on board with St. Thomas though. If I were Douple I'd try to get that done way, way, way before I'd move on Augie, no matter how much money Sanford dangled in front of me.

I think there is a lot a naivety in this sentence (not saying your naïve da_coach just the statement). There are a ton of examples of people that on the outside appear as extremely trustworthy individuals but are anything but.

There was just a guy down by Corsica that got busted in what amounted to a Ponzi scheme with cattle. A family member of mine knew someone who lost a lot of money in that deal. That person said you never would have suspected that guy of doing something like that.

Greed does weird things to a lot of people. When there is money involved and stuff is happening behind closed doors I'd be very suspicious.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. What you said, was kind of what I was hinting at... you never know about this kind of stuff.

And I'm not against Krabbenhoft or Sanford at all.... it's just.... it seems kinda... I don't know. I put 6 different words in there and none of them were right. It's concerning.

SDSU has its share of extremely generous donors. Nine donors have given SDSU over $10,000,000 of which three have given over $20,000,000 to the University as a whole. A significant portion but certainly not all has been in support of athletics.

I'm aware, but I'm wondering if the money to the Summit League/Augie etc. is coming from Sanford Health or Sanford himself. People keep complaining about the money coming from a non-profit, but I think that might be a misinformed observation.

Yes I see your point, I spent some time in Sanford Hospital in Fargo. It is just another health care facility, nothing fancy. Every time I asked for rainbow sherbet, I always got one. That audit report was full of detail. Deloitte made some bucks putting that together. Looking for shady transactions, not likely to find. Unless it is a fraudulent nature, the independent auditors don’t comment much. They want the audit job next year.
