At the end of the winter sports season, SDSU leads in points for the Commissioner's Cup, in Women's sports and in Men's sports. Currently, SDSU has 50.5 points followed by USD with 41.5. On the women's side, SDSU leads IUPUI 31 to 28. On the men's side, SDSU has 19.5 with Denver, NDSU and USD tied for second with 15 points.


If the teams complete the spring seasons as picked in the conference races, the Jacks would win all three. In the Commissioner's cup, SDSU would have 81.5 points. NDSU would be second with 73.5 followed by USD at 68.5 and Denver with 68. In Women's sport, SDSU would lead NDSU 47 to 45.5 and men's would lead Denver 34.5 to 29

There's definitely and advantage to sponsoring more sports. But WIU sponsors every Summit sport and it certainly doesn't help them. If you want to get silly, you can look at it like this:

I call this one my normalized system. First place for each sport is worth the same points. In this case, 3024(it eliminates decimals). Finishing 4th in a sport with 8 teams is worth the same as finishing 3rd in a sport with 6.

You can also take this system and combine it with the score/#sports or the Big Sky take best #n sports method.

FWIW: SDSU has won it's 3rd straight Commissioner's Cup, along with both the men and women's titles. The Jacks finished in the top-three in 16 of its 18 sponsored sports during the 2014-15 academic year. Not to shabby!
