MBB: USD comes back down to Earth in a 79-61 loss at Western Illinois. USD (8-10, 3-1) was out rebounded 34-19. Gruis only had 5 points on 2-4 shooting.
MBB: Denver 74, Omaha 60. Final. Denver controlled nearly the entire way. Denver was 10-19 from deep in this one.
WBB: Western Illinois 81, USD 71. USD (9-10, 0-4) in the league. WIU made 13 three pointers.
Omaha was not the same team that we saw on Saturday. Omaha was playing way over their heads last Saturday. Turnovers were numerous in this game, or Denver is good on defense.
winning in Omaha will probably serve Denver well as the middle of the pack spreads out.
The USD men's loss did not surprise me but the women's did. I thought the dome would be a friend tonight. Instead they got handled by a mid-level team. Maybe they will end up with a 6-7-seed after all.
Lots of action today. Things should start to take shape in both men's and women's races.
On the men's side Denver has a chance to make a real statement by sweeping their road trip (at WIU). NDSU obviously has a "statement" game as well. USD will really come crashing down to earth if they take another road loss in Omaha. IPFW should go to 4-1 (hosting IUPUI).
On the women's side IPFW is at IUPUI and both teams are 3-1. USD gets 1-3 Omaha at home and if they don't win today they'll have no chance at finishing higher than fifth. SDSU should have an easy win but I'm still nervous about any road game with this team.
I think the ndsu men will run away with it and denver gets 2nd. Ipfw has 5 of 7 on the road 2nd half of conf schedule. They will lise a few of those but should still get 3rd. Everyone else battles for 4,5,6. IUPUI appears headed fir the 7 seed. USD has 5 of 7 in the road like IPFW. And we know how well they do on the road. I would almost rather have the 6 seed to stay away from the Bison until Tue night, if we can win a couple.
