    Re: Oru returning to sl

last year they knew they didn't have a chance for the SL title with the Jacks still having Nate around so they went to a place they thought they could win. well that didn't work out. Now that Nates gone they might think they have a chance in the SL so why not come back. for the women, I dont think the move back would help. they made the NCAA t but are losing a ton of scoring with Luper, Bigham, Buck, no longer there.

I haven't found anything, and am skeptical to any truth behind this rumor. But this is the time of the year when you start to figure out what the money is going to like for the athletic department. Maybe they looked at it and said, maybe the SL isn't so bad, and have had talks about possibly rejoining. I will say this, even if there is some truth behind them wanting back in, I doubt they have formally applied, because my guess is the SL would act quickly and it would be public.

I would support this only because listening to ORU fans whine about coming back to the Dakotas would delight me to no end.

Wasn't a big part of ORU's leaving because of baseball, and their worry that at some point the Summit might not have enough teams for an auto-bid to the NCAA's ?

That was their excuse, that and the competition was better and more exposure to the scouts down south, or something in that lines.

I've concluded this "story" is pure speculation. There's not even a sniff at the "story" by regular news outlets and even the opinion-blogs are obvlious to the "story".

              But, it's an interesting story!

If you have a group of retired scandanavians around the coffee pot, you never know what will come of it.

                Pass the Snus!!

Good one, except the person telling me this is part Hollander and English orgins, and not Scandnavian. I being the gullible one I open this thread and now regret it. Note to moderators: Close it before it grows another 5 pages.

I'm mostly Irish and your post is a reminder of cultural differences: I would have guessed coffee would come out of it but now I'm not so sure. Scandanavians = alchemists?

If ORU were to return to the SL, how would they approach the donor who forked over $350,000 to pay the SL exit fee and the enterance fee to the Southland Conference. This donor would appear to be the tail wagging the dog and would no doubt be offended by any talk of returning to SL. I wish I would had that info on Saturday. This thread would have never been born.

I couldn't picture ORU coming back because that would be akin to saying "we made a mistake".

One thing I thought was kind of humorous though, was when they left the Summit there were rumors they were upset with the conference tourney being in Sioux Falls. They supposedly didn't like that they had to travel 6 hours to a hostile environment where 2 universities were only an hour away. So instead they went to the Southland where they have to travel 5 hours to the conference tournament and 2 universities are within 1.5 hours.....sounds like a major upgrade to me. The only difference is that they don't have to face the hostile environment. The Southland champioonship game only drew 3100 people,

The discussion probably went something like "Please let us in,pretty please ! "

Preliminary discussions is the same thing DU has had. The article really doesn't say much. My guess is that the MVC are just letting people know they are on a list, information may be requested, or has been requested. The MVC leadership wants to guage interest. The last thing any conference wants is to be embarassed by publicly offering a slot and getting turned down.
