No they are not leaving, just rumor. This article is poorly written and incorrect.

I assume your referring to this line: And Oral Roberts, along with Oakland one of the Summit's most consistently strong programs, is leaving for the Southland Conference.

I think you are misunderstanding which is understandable given the quality of this story. I believe the writer is trying to say that Oakland along with ORU is one of the conferences strongest programs and that ORU is leaving for the Southland.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

That sentence is indeed very misleading. Why would Oakland located in Michigan go to Texas to play several times in one season? If Oakland goes anywhere as we all know, it would be Horizon which has more schools in their travel range. Some proofreader really missed this one.

Really more of an editor issue. The author isn't suggesting that Oakland is joining the Southland. Rather it's an awkward modifying clause intended to provide context. If Oakland was mentioned it should've been mentioned in a preceding sentence or phrase, e.g.:

"Oral Roberts and Oakland have been the most consistently successful programs in the Summit League; however, Oral Roberts will be departing for the Southland Conference this fall."
