I'd really be interested in the reason they picked the ASUN over the Summit. Was it confirmed the Summit was after them? Maybe they felt they could compete easier in the ASUN. Hope TV or Kolpack write something about this.
Geography appears to favor ASUN slightly, but not by much:
Recruiting, maybe, and perception of the university as part of the south, as opposed to midwest--plus the A-Sun is a weaker conference than the Summit, especially with Belmont leaving for the OVC.

I really wanted to see NKU in the Summit. I too hope more information comes out on reasons for picking A-Sun.I mapquested the conference schools for both Summit and A-Sun and the average driving distance is actually closer for the Summit. But as someone else pointed out, they probably picture themselves more as a Southeastern school as opposed to a Midwest School. Summit was taken with SUU and ORU gone.
Summit
Fargo – 946
Brookings – 929
Vermillion – 828
Omaha – 728
Kansas City – 597
Macomb – 381
Indianapolis – 120
Fort Wayne – 215
Oakland – 299
Average - 560
Atlantic Sun
Nashville – 274
Johnson City – 356
Fort Meyers – 1037
Jacksonville – 800
Keenasaw ga – 439
Nashville – 274
Macon – 546
Jacksonville – 800
Spartanburg – 426
Deland, fl – 888
Average - 584
Going 1000 miles to Florida is probably easier than going 950 miles to Fargo during January/February.

I have to imagine being in the same time zone as all the schools plays a part in this as well.

General perception in the South would add 1000 miles to any distance west of the Mississippi.
