  • ESPN: Summit #18 in D-1 conferences

That's the opinion of Eamonn Brennan, ESPN.com. We're in the group he calls "mid-majors that play basketball you'd actually want to watch". He goes on to opine that there's a noticeable drop off after #19. The Big Sky Conference is ranked #26. Last year, the Summit League was #24 in this guy's opinion.

Just opinion but it makes some sense.

This RPI site now lists the Summit as #11 following yesterdays victories for ORU and SDSU. The Pac-12 is listed at 9. One other thing I noticed is Oakland also had a nice win Saturday- Oakland 82, Valparaiso 80 . Valpo is #86 on that website and another good nonconference win. Not a signature win like ORU and SDSU but the kind of win that keeps the Summit high in the rankings.

Re: ESPN: Summit #18 (now 11) in D-1 conferences

So the Summit League has 5 of the top 50 scoring players in NCAA D-1

        No. 8 Reggie Hamilton (Oakland U) 22.00 points/game
No. 12 Nate Wolters (So. Dak. St.) 21.54 points/game
        No. 13 Frank Gaines (IPFW) 21.40 points/game
        No. 34 Alex Young (IUPUI) 19.42 points/game
        No. 42 Reggie Chamberlain (UMKC) 19.00 points/game

The Summit League has more top 50 scorers than any other conference in D-1. The Big East, Big 12 and Metro Atlantic all have 4 conference players in the top 50, but nobody else has 5.

We have been saying this all year, but the Summit League does have some great players in the league it should be fun to watch them all at Frost this year.

Re: ESPN: Summit #18 in D-1 conferences

I remember watching a game on ESPN not too long ago and the announcers were talking about the top mid-majors in college bball after the six power conferences and one of announcers mentioned the Summit League as one of the top mid-majors and I thought that was pretty cool considering Summit was ranked in the 20s last year and never seemed to be an excellent mid-major conference but I ditto TVs article that said that the new rule changes to the Summit league has really helped Summit get better and better every year as a conference
