Re: UN-Omaha? All signs point to....we'll see?
I just don't see Omaha supporting the Summit League Tournament from a fan or corporate support like Sioux Falls. In terms of the lack of fan attendence at the championship game I didn't think it was that bad and the atmosphere was decent. Watch some of the other conference tournament championship games at neutral sites or in venues where the 'local" team did not advance to the final game and you will see a lot of empty seats. The Big 10 womens conference games are an absolute embarassment from an attendence standpoint. Douple has emphatically stated over and over recently that the Summit League is a "Midwest" Conference and going forward that will be the footprint. I think UNO is all but a done deal. IMHO, UNO would be smart to drop football and focus on the other sports. With that said I don't see them doing that and imagine MVC offering will be sought. Nagy commented on KWSN yesterday that IUPUI,IFPW, Oral Roberts and Oakland have an advantage because they don't have football and can put most of their resources into Mens Basketball as that provides the greatest potential return on investment. I don't view UNO any different than the other commuter schools in our conference who reside in big communities and have limited fan support. I think UNO has a chance to make this work if done right.
