  • Missouri State to Conference USA

The Missouri Valley Football Conference will be back down to 10 members starting in 2025. The Missouri Valley Conference down to 11 members. The dominos that may hit the Summit League may be a bigger concern for SDSU, to be completely honest.

It's still a free country and schools are certainly free to play where they think they belong if invited, but it's hard to see how this makes sense for a Missouri State. But MoSt doesn't belong in FBS. The only benefit I've ever discerned from schools like MoSt and SHSU is that they will schedule 3 or 4 guarantee games each fall instead of 1 or 2, and they'll get paid more for each guarantee pasting.

$ 5,000,000 is a lot to spend to move up for a football program that has been at best average in the FCS. And for their other teams, C-USA seems a step down from the Valley. And if everything reorganizes in a couple of years, they are going to end up in the middle tier along with the SDSU's of the world.

We were very average in football when we moved up to D-1. People pointed it out often. Turns out it didn't matter.

True, but we also didn't have to pay $5 mil up front for the pleasure.

$5,000,000 is a legit reason to not move up. Not being dominant at a particular level isn't.

Delaware Blue Hens are next, also Kennesaw St. Looks like a conference of lower tier FBS and incoming somewhat above average FCS.

Maybe the g5 will form its own ranking and playoff system separate from the p4. They aren’t going to invite fcs conferences into their new scheme right? I think it’s a good move for Mo State imo literally everyone is doing it and if the Mac were to invite us and ndsu id hope they’d accept. Although I’d be interested know what people think about it.

I have no interest in moving up if it means playing in a conference whose games routinely are played at night during the work week instead of Saturday, the day ordained by the Ancient of Days for college football.

If you haven't listened to the latest episode of Nobody's Listening Anyway, you will likely find Zim's commentary re. Jacks' mindset heartening.

Yeah the weekday thing is just unnatural but I looked it up and it’s about 3-4 games per season that they play with that schedule. All the non con and half the league is on gods chosen day. I’m not trying to make a case per se but that is the closest g5 league to the Dakotas.

It may be the closest currently, but as Zim, and purportedly SDSU Admin., has said, the Jacks' circumstances allow for patience and prudence as the P5 situation (d)evolves.

Who knows what options might be then, and yes, Zim conceded that G5 could opt to refuse to consider teams like SDSU and NDSU

Yes, that is heartening. I work in manufacturing. That means I know many engineers, most of which are either SDSU or NDSU fans. The NDSU fans by and large align with the idea that when G5 splits from P5 an attractive FCS program will have opportunities, as opposed to the media hype in Fargo. IMHO, the fact that FCS dominance resides in the 3 state area of the Dakotas & Montana makes it a no brainier to bring in a certain group of 6-8 programs to complete a nationwide TV market when the G5-P5 split happens.

Tbf to the MAC, it’s not like they get good crowds when they play on Saturday either. Most of the MAC is in Michigan and Ohio. Hard to get much love when you’re in the same states as Cincinnati, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan.

SDSU and NDSU don’t suffer from this. Not saying we should move to the MAC, I’m just saying our situation wouldn’t be like the other schools.
