  • MVFC & ESPN Multimedia Rights Extension

link to full espn article, here are two paragraphs from it

"The Missouri Valley Football Conference and ESPN have reached a new multimedia rights extension. The agreement will feature national linear and digital exposure for the Conference, beginning with the 2024 football season and extending through the 2029 season. This fall, the Conference and ESPN are entering the final year of their existing multi-year agreement."

"During the term of the six-year extension, a minimum of nine MVFC games will be featured on ESPN linear networks (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU), in addition to continuing the eight-game Conference “Game of the Week” digital package on ESPN+, the leading sports streaming service. The MVFC will also deliver additional league contests to air exclusively on ESPN platforms as part of the new agreement."

As mentioned on AGS, the wording is ambiguous; will it be nine MVFC games over the course of the six years or nine games per year?

Part of the Big Sky / ESPN agreement from 2021 was ESPNU would televise the following each year: two football games, one regular season basketball game, and the championship games for men & women's basketball. It is worth noting that one football game was flexed to ESPN2 last year, and two of the games have already been flexed to ESPN2 this year (Montana/Idaho and Montana State/Sac State).

Someone here last year mentioned the MVFC wouldn't see as good a deal as the Big Sky and their 2 televised games per year since their games are Mountain/Pacific Time. Part of the argument was that there's nothing else to air aside from PAC12 / replays at that time of night (looks like Mountain West is on CBS / Fox now).

9 games over 6 years still isn't bad, and it is certainly a step up from 0 games per year.

Hopefully the national games will be in a Friday night / Saturday window. Not like the Tuesday and Wednesday night games that some of the G5 conferences have to play.
