JacksFTW is saying 3 years if he stayed at USD, but one of those will be wasted on IWCC. And the Bison don't need him. You put enough fear into us without him.

      Re: 2016 Recruiting List

VG is a very good football player, no question, and I hope we can get a shot, but it seems as if he is going to FBS. USD aside, is he good enough to be at Iowa, sure. Does he have the talent to play consistently be a starter at Iowa? From the only game I saw, which was against the Jacks, no. I know he had a very good year so my sample size is small. I am looking for input from whoever saw him play more often. Lets hear the opinions, what do you all think, is he good enough to be a starter in FBS?

Andrew is a great kid and we would be proud of him if he wore Jack blue. Who knows what will happen at Iowa Western. He will certainly get FBS offers, but maybe SDSU has another shot at him. I know that Iowa has been a place he's wanted to attend, but I have not talked to him directly the past couple months. The rumor of him leaving for Iowa Western is true, but it is not for academic, law breaking or behavior. I wish him the best at Iowa Western and understand his decision especially after the coaching changes.
        Thanks for the insight

You never know how those things turn out. McCabe thought he would end up at a FBS school and it didn't work that way for him. I think he'll have offers before he plays a down for Iowa Western based on his success at USD.

Yes, he is good enough to play at an FBS school. Will he be good enough to start, contribute to special teams, be an All Conference/American is the question. My question is what position is he at the FBS level. He's not big enough to play DE yet, but he's also only a redshirt freshman. There are 4-6 players on most of the FCS schools that could contribute to a moderate FBS team if put in the right position to be successful. If he was playing tomorrow on an FBS team it would have to be at linebacker or at a TE. OT would eat him up at DE right now at 225-230 lbs. Maybe a pass rushing specialist at best right now. Put him in an FBS weight program, food program, and strength/conditioning program for another 18 months and he might just be an absolute beast!

That's what ndsu fans said about zenner going to the pros. Never saw him go for 200 easy in a game just where they owned us so they weren't impressed.

I"m not sure there is much difference between a FBS and a FCS weight program, food program, and strength/conditioning program, is there?

Here's the deal, every player in FCS wanted to be FBS. Most can say they can be on FBS rosters. Are they truly good enough to play/contribute/start? The VG example is one where a very good young player thinks he can play the FBS level. If he didn't have a coaching change he may not be even seeking the change. I'm asking honestly can he play at the next level. Bulldog, who has a relationship, and the most exposure to VG, creates a passionate and biased opinion (which I cannot blame him for). No matter where they play, FCS or FBS if they're good enough they're going to get a chance to get a shot in the NFL (Wentz). Good for VG for taking a chance, only time will tell if it was the right move.

More resources (more strength coaches, dietitians, training tables, cafeterias for just athletes, sport science "toys" etc.) at FBS programs.

That makes sense. More of everything. I guess I was solely thinking about the type of work and regimen the different level of athletes do.

Holy Crap. FBS teams have English Royals on their side now, too?!?

FBS have 5-7 full time Strength and Conditioning for just football. FCS many are shared with all sports and rarely are sport specific. I've heard the snack/food budget just for FBS football teams is over a million dollars. I think the biggest advantage is the fact you are practicing against the best athletes every day. At USD Gink would be done playing football in mid November whereas at Michigan State or Iowa he would be done in early January. You will have every advantage to reach your full potential.

Good luck to Mr. Van Ginkel since he will soon be a household name like Bart Starr.

More of everything, including money: saw this morning that Alabama's strength coach made $420,000 this year, Clemson's made $245,000
