Georgia Southern bought out of their Sept. 10th game in Oct. and damn that would have been a good return game but oh well, guess in 05 we should have made the buy out higher

Combined, Lafayette and Saint Francis were 3-19 last season. Maybe the Bizun are onto something, that the road to the playoffs is two FCS home-game marshallows and a winnable FBS game that brings in the cash, then striving for .500 in the conference. Worked for 'em last year and looks like they're going back to the same well in '11.

Much like Delaware not wanting to come back here...

When you schedule a home and home, teams have to make that buyout higher and make it a tough contract to get out of. Yeah, it ties you down a little bit and decreases the schedule flexibility, but too many teams bail on the other half of their contract once they have their home game.

GSU hosts Coastal Carolina on September 10th, so at least they are playing a pretty good opponent.

Well our home game vs Montana in 2014 has a $200k buyout. The GSU buyout was $60k.

The Delaware game was not a buyout. It was an agreed upon deal by the two schools to not have the last two games of the series. It was a 2 for 1 that was agreed upon before SDSU was in the Valley.

Haven't the Gophers learned their lesson yet on playing teams in the two states directly west of them? They are likely not going to be good again next year either.

Again St. Francis was added THIS FALL after GSU bought out, there was only 1 OOC game on the schedule that was a "cupcake" until then

That's fair and thanks for the clarification. I just wish that more teams would finish out the deal that they make. I also wish Delaware would have come here, but what can you do...

1-10 is more of a marshmallow than a cupcake.

Well whatever, i don't understand why we get flack over scheduling Lower FCS teams, when MANY of our peers in the Valley schedule NAIA, DIII and DII schools, us having LU and SF on the schedule is no different that Iowa putting UNI and say Ball St on theirs, still DI just not as good

Gene does a great job with the schedule imo. We schedule FBS teams we can beat, and normally we have an average FCS team and a poor FCS team. Its nice to be able to pay those cupcake type teams $100,000 to 150,000 to come to fargo.

The only people who would rip on our schedule would be people who are jealous that we have the fanbase/resources to be able to bring in cupcake type teams when needed. I don't like have 2 cupcakes, but under the circumstances we needed another home game. Its important to have that 6th home game for the tailgators. It helps cultivate a better gameday atmosphere.

Right. Because our strategy of difficult games really helped with our playoff chances this year...

Hmmm... your average attendance was actually down in a year in which you had both USD AND SDSU at home, plus a playoff game, so I wouldn't be that cavalier about fanbase. You got barely 12,000 to a home playoff game against Bob Morris; that, to me, is more of a measure of interest in the Layfayettes and Saint Francises of the football world.

So what you are saying is you would rather beat up on a couple of bad FCS teams that your fan base has no connection to rather than taking on the Big Dogs of the division. That no doubt will make an easier road to the playoffs easier, but you sacrifice any leftover D-II swagger along the way...
Can just imagine Bison fans marking off the days to Saint Francis AND Lafayette.
I, for one, am proud the Jacks took a shot at Delaware this year even if it might have made more sense to ride in on marshmallows.

They are marking off the days to tailgate in the nice September weather, I can tell you that. That is the big draw for the early games, tailgating wasn't quite the same for the Bob Morris game with a foot of snow on the ground.

We need the same kind of thinking. We need to book home games early during nice weather, that UND game sucks for the average fan. I will be there in any kind of weather, but the average fan won't attend in cold temps and snow.
