    Naming a dog....Need Help!

My wife and I are adopting/buying a dog for Christmas. We met each other at State during our senior year(s). Recently married, we're starting a family and getting a puppy. We are having troubles coming up with a name for our new pup. Since we both are huge Jackrabbit Fans, we want to have his/her name something to do with SDSU or Brookings. Any help you have would be appreciated. Anything but Jack or Jax works for us! Thanks for your help!

Name it Coughlin. After the stadium and the campanile. Then you really get the Brookings vibe.

Or just name it after the building you met in. You might win brownie points for tying the two together.

      Type of Dog?

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can never teach a stupid dog anything.

Coughlin was my first thought as well...

            Is it an excitable dog?

Okay...some serious advice -- basic rules on dog naming and training.

Many trainer advocate using a two-syllable name for the dog. All commands should be one syllable words (sit; stay; no; come; etc.).

Read any of the dog-training books by Wolters (e.g. Water Dog; Gun Dog etc.). You can get them at the library. You'll pick up several gems for training -- read a Wolters book even if the dog is not a hunting dog.

Ditto on the Wolters books. I think he even had a book called "House Dog" or some general title like that devoted to companions/house dogs.
