Yeah, well where I live (east-river Jack - Watertown) late March and late November are pretty much the same for buddying up to your snowblower.

Ask and you shall receive. Used it last night and this morning. No school in Yankton this morning so wife wanted to sleep in a bit, I was up early moving snow before work. I was suppose to be down in Nebraska seeing patients today, made a decision not to make that trip. Finish some charts and work on my lectures this morning and then go blow some more snow!

Can't wait until we talk about spring flooding. It will be warmer then.

                    Re: Snowblower Advice

Bought a 9 HP 27" Ariens based on advice of a friend (combined with limited availability of other brands here). Used it today for the first time. Worked great. My neighbor bought a cheapo brand that claimed to be 6 HP. Took him 90 minutes to finish his driveway this morning because he kept getting bogged down.

Mine was done in 20. And I had more snow to move since we face north onto the cul-de-sac.

So far so good. I bought the Ariens because it's made entirely of metal. No plastic chute or covers anywhere. It looks like a pretty durable piece of equipment.

Bottom line: I probably just added 10 years to my lifespan. No more 3 hour shoveling sessions.

The good doctor will tell you that only if replace that exercise with another cardio workout.

My snow blower advice is to get one. this shoveling stuff has got to stop. I think I have built enough character by now.

Snow shoveling is actually one of the more dangerous common tasks people do. The combination of the cold (constricting blood vessels) and the kind of physical labor that most of us don't do very often makes it a fairly dicey activity for men over 40. Also, lifting and turning endangers your back and knees.

I know, that is why I put the smiley face at the end. I am guessing that JackMD's actual advice would be along the lines that when shoveling snow, take your time get rest and if you feel any chest pain, call 911.
