A headline like that one certainly attracts attention to what may appear at first blush to be an outrage.  The underlying story is a serious one.  The MN Legislature had passed a law which addressed the subject of improper installation of a child's seat in a vehicle and that law was at the heart of the dispute.  A secondary issue in such cases:  should a family member be prevented from making a claim that a non-family member would be able to make?

If you were injured by another person and you are unable to work for a period of time, our society deems it appropriate that we seek compensation from the person who caused the injury.  Insurance coverage provides some protection against such claims.  In many states, there are laws which prevent a family member from recovering from another family member who may be legally at fault for causing injury to the first family member.  And yet, if the same facts were present but the injured person was a total stranger, there would be coverage.  Hmmmm.

Man beats peacock; thought it was a vampire
        http://www.startribune.com/484/story/1278985.html

NEW YORK -- A peacock that roamed into a fast-food restaurant parking lot was attacked by man who vilified the bird as a vampire, animal-control authorities said.
Beaten so fiercely that most of his tail feathers fell out, the bird was euthanized, said Richard Gentles, a spokesman for the city's Center for Animal Care and Control.

The increase in video game addiction and people watching television, the AMA diagnosis is probably needed. The book "Four Arguments for the Elimination of TV" by Jerry Mander has some interesting discussions with seritonin receptors in your brain, alpha waves, etc and how it's not just advertising, it's the actual effects that the images have on the human mind and body.

The fact is that more and more kids are coming into the hospitals with ADHD and they'll run all over the room and break things. But when you put a tv in front of them, they'll sit there and watch with no problem. I think it's possible that the AMA diagnoisis may be beneficial to have.

But on a serious note, I'm gonna go back and watch some ESPN. Later.
