  • RIP Merle Haggard

Music lost a living legend today. Of course his music will live on forever.

Saw him a couple of years ao in a St, Louis casino. Next to a couple of loud mouth drunk 21 year olds who did their best to talk through the show. RIP Merle, while Johnny Cash was on the stage making his album, you were in the audience with the other cons. Merle was the real deal. Unlike a lot of 'em, his voice held up well in old age.

Merle IS Country Music... He didn't have to remind others about it, unlike a lot of so-called "Country" singers today.

Was sad to see this. He was great. Saw him once. Was hoping to see him and Willie in concert together, but not meant to be. They had some shows scheduled together but not around here this year. I dont really listen to any thing country now adays. Love Willie, and Merle and Waylon etc. trying to get out of a family vacation, so can see Willie and Kris Kristofferson In Omaha this summer. Maybe tonight after work will have a beer and listen to Think Ill Just Stay Here and Drink, and drink one for the Hag.

So glad we got to see him last fall. Turns out, that was when his pneumonia trouble was just starting. He wasn't much of a fan of today's "country" either:

“This group’s not going to be anything like what you saw on that country music thing (the CMA Awards) the other night,” Haggard said in the first of his funny quips. “I thought there were some nice-looking people there and everything looked great. They seemed to be short of songs.”
