Saw this on Deadspin and ESPN. Absolutely disgusting. I hope they are charged and banned from sports the rest of their time in high school. But someone will file a lawsuit and nothing will ever happen to them.

What claims could the parents of the aggressors have and against whom would they bring the claims? Maybe I missed something in the stories.

I would think the ref would have some kind of recourse in this matter. I can picture him wearing a neck brace, and when no one is looking, he takes it off. I suspect he would have some kind of liability insurance coverage which would have to run its course. If I were a parent of one these kids, I would be pricing defense lawyers. They may need one.

Blame the coach, administration, and school district (who may actually have a level of responsibility if the kids were instructed to do it) for putting these impressionable kids in that situation. It wouldn't be that far-fetched, especially in a situation that is drawing national attention.

I'm with KULawJack: you must know more facts than I've read because based on what's out in the public so far, there's no basis for the wrongdoers (or their parents) to assert a claim against anyone.

I hope the ref is okay and that by now the "athletes, their coaches and parents have apologized for the outrageous behavior.

The two players are alleging the official used a racial slur and that an assistant also said something about the official that may have led to the attack. Whatever....
