  • IUPUI Genius

Did anyone watch the 60 Minutes segment on the genius kid attending IUPUI? His name is Jake and he is 13 years old and I believe he is a sophomore at IUPUI. Throughout the interview he was always wearing an IUPUI sweatshirt or cap. IUPUI probably gave him the gear and told him to wear it during the interviews and around campus.

The parents were stating that one time in kindergarten he came home and was upset because they were not teaching him anything in class and wanted to know when they were going to teach him Algebra. I'm not sure I knew what Algebra was in kindergarten. He stopped going to school after the 5th grade because he wanted to attend college. He self taught himself all high school math subjects in two weeks. Then proceeded to complete the entire high school curriculum in one year. Then was accepted into IUPUI. There was one segment when they were in class and he asked the professor a question and you could see the fear in the professors eyes, because if this kid did not know the answer to the question, odds are the professor may not know either and the 60 Minutes cameras were on him waiting for the answer. They did cut away before he answered, but the professor looked a little uncomfortable.

Anyway I thought it was a pleasant surprise to see the IUPUI campus on 60 Minutes.

Just maybe he is a fan of Alex Young. Who knows. If he is attending IUPUI then the gear is appropriate. I saw the introductory but got turned off by the Groupon story. I made a mistake in flipping the channel too soon. Its amazing how the learning ability varies from individual to individual.

Interesting story. He could probably give you the probability of making a half court shot as compared to a 15 footer, among other things that pertain to basketball, where he could incorporate mathimatical equations to facilitate acomplishing some mundane action(to us), to do it much more efficiently, or something.

I was on the same plane as the IUPUI men's team coming in to Sioux Falls from Mpls last night. Nice young men, I wished them luck for their next 2 games and told them I hope they win. The genius was not with them.

My kid can eat a whole can of SpaghettiO's in one sitting. And he hasn't even started school yet.

Just recently my son found out he had feet. He was pretty stoked to figure that out too. But he was about 5 months old when he did that.
