Anyone on the board happen to own a Chevy Tahoe?

I'm considering getting one, wondering if anyone has good/bad experience with them.

What other SUV's (capable of hauling 3 kids and pulling boat or possibly small camper) does anyone have/recommend?

I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban that works well hauling 4 kids, 1 wife, an occassional boat or trailer. HOWEVER, with 50+ miles of work/errands per day - I'm seriously considering my alternatives.

I remember how $hitty $4.00/gallon felt and I don't look forward to going through that again anytime soon. I would guess that I average 13 mpg in town (Rapid City - lots of hills and stop and go traffic). On the highway - I hope to get 15-17, but I drive too fast.

Don't know if that helps, but it's been a great vehicle. (I'll take my odds in a showdown with most of the dopes that drive our crazy streets here in RC!)

Uggh...I just traded in my 2006 Suburban z71 after having it on CraigsList, Autotrader for a couple of weeks.
I think you would've like it, 72K/completely loaded with Nav, probably would've sold it to you for $20K since I know you're a good guy because you're a hard-core Jackrabbit Fan, as I had it listed for $21,500.

Just couldn't justify $100 per tank anymore and not even getting two weeks worth of in-town driving out of it. Liked the room though.

I have a '05 Dodge Durango with a V-8 (not the Hemi), it has three rows of seats and pulls a pop-up camper like nothing is behind it. I like it a lot.

I've owned one, they are okay. Hard on gas and not the best for towing heavy loads (5,000 lbs or more). Will do okay with a boat or a small pop up type camper.

If your looking to pull a full size camper any distance upgrading to a 3/4 ton truck is well worth it for the horsepower. Gas mileage will still be an issue.

The higher mileage Chevy SUV's do run into transmission problems especially if they have been used in "severe conditions" such as city driving or lots of towing so be wary. You're better off spending more upfront for the lower mileage.

            Re: Chevy Tahoe

I spend nine hours a day, five days a week in a Chevy Tahoe. The ride is okay, mileage is an issue, of course most of the time we sit in one spot and the engine is at idle all day. eats gas but handles it. as for comfort some guys like it better than an Ford Expidition but I like the Ford better, I prefer Dodge and Ford over GM.

              Re: Chevy Tahoe

We have one. I think it is an '05. It is full time all wheel drive and does eat a lot of gas. I have a good friend who has one of the Ford's which are similar. I think the seats in the Tahoe are much more comfortable, especially if I happen to be riding in the back. The third row seats in the Tahoe, unfortunately, will not hold a post or a wing player, only the shortest of point guards from the fifth grade team.
