I am 29 and want less to be connected to tech so I choose books for my reading. I finally have The Pacific, it is worth the read if you haven't yet. Its a good read and different then the HBO series. I am more of a fan of war books, anything WWII or band of brothers related I want to read it.

Books. I'm pretty low tech. There's this place called a library where I borrow free ones that I can read and return when I'm done. Pretty cool system.
Just finished another John Sandford book. If you like police type of mystery books, John Sandford is GREAT. I've read all of the "Prey" series to date and just read my first of his Virgil Flowers books. Second one is on hold at this library place.
I'm not sure if I have read the entire Prey series or if I might have missed one or more along the line. I'm impressed with how evil those villains in the People's Republic of Minnesota can be. Wait until you read the most recent of the Virgil Flowers series. Evil almost gets a new definition in that one. It was one of the first books I read on the Kindle I got for Christmas.
I really like how light the e-reader is and the fact that it's completely flat, not bent into a curve like a paperback usually is when you read it. It's a great racket for the companies that sell these things. They get a customer who can buy a book at pretty much any location and it's really easy to run up a pretty good credit card bill. A library is a lot cheaper.
I do like the fact that I can adjust the size of the print on the Kindle. Being able to read without glasses makes me feel younger!

I'm on the second of the Virgil Flowers series now. I like reading them in order. Still amazed at how I get sucked into them Sandford is a talented writer. I'm not a big reader, but his is my third Sandford book this month already. Can't wait to get to the most recent one!
I updated my signature for the first time in six years.
Books only and non-fiction exclusively. Finishing the Oxford History of the US series (thus far) with "From Colony to Superpower; US Foreign Relations Since 1776". For history buffs an enjoyable series.

For you mystery readers, try James Lee Burke, winner of two Edgar awards. He has two protagonists, former Texas Ranger turned attorney Billy Bob Holland and, the man who made Burke famous: Cajun detective Dave Robicheaux. Robicheaux is a modern day knight-errant modeled after Don Quixote with the best sidekick ever in Cletus Purcel. Robicheaux is a recovering alcoholic; Purcel struggles much harder with booze and such. Both are Vietnam vets and tremendously complex characters. To call Burke simply a crime writer is an abomination; he is a literary craftsman of the first order. There are 18 Robicheaux books dating to 1987. It isn't necessary to start at the beginning as Burke provides enough info to get one up to speed in each book. I recommend starting with Purple Cane Road and working to the present. Interestingly, Burke's books are narrated in the first person to give the works a very personal feel.
Of note, for any Michael Connelly fans (Harry Bosch), in the film Blood Work starring Clint Eastwood, Jeff Daniels' character wears a Robicheaux's Dock and Bait Shop T-shirt (Dave has a bait shop on Bayou Teche near his house).
Books all the way for me. Can't get a signed Kindle.
I'm doing my best to resist the instant information age (minus internet).
No twitter (although following TV would be nice), no I-anything. No texting plan on my phone. No expanded cable tv.
And no electronic books. Give me the real thing anyday.
I did eventually give in to the powers of facebook.
Someday, I imagine, I'll have to give in and start getting some of this crap, but until then, no.
Man, I sound like an 80 year old 30 year old.
I'm extremely guilty of thread drift in this thread, but I can't resist just one more:
As a family we are trying to keep up with Technology. So I brought my son an ipod, my Daughter an iphone, and myself an ipad. I felt sorry for the wife so I brought her an iRon. That's when the fight started.

1. When I read in bed, the wife doesn't yell at me for being noisy "turning pages" when she's trying to sleep.
2. Also laying down while reading....you can read on your side...just click the next page button...no "readjusting" needed. this is HUGE for me since 90% of my reading is done in bed.
3. Free Books! Lots of classics, and also some interesting new authors I have read on mine in the past year.
