Isn't a gap some sort of measure of the distance between at least two objects (whether tangible or intangible)? You have no idea about the strength of the Jackrabbits.

You have failed to consider countless other possibilities. Here's one, for example: I will likely attend the game because I like to go to some games. I cannot make it to all of the games. The USD game is a curiosity to me, not much more. Part of the reason I am curious is because several USD grads have brought the topic up to me and in the past month at least three have said they miss the days when dead rabbits were thrown on the floor. If a dead rabbit or a pocketfull of baby carrots is thrown on the floor, I won't be happy but I won't be surprised if there's an attempt. That is so 1970's and prior and SDSU is so far beyond that. I'm confident most USD fans are beyond that, too. But, will there be a few numbskulls who try? [Comissioner Douple will be in attendance. He won't be happy.]

Pretty typical Coyote Fan comment: setting himself up for an "I told you so" if convenient. The real problem with USD attendance will be mostly related to SDSU fans having season tickets; SDSU students getting in on their student ID; SDSU fans simply showing up in higher numbers for all games as the season unfolds. None of that is a knock on USD.

What will be saved for the Summit League games 2 years later will be the beginning of the takeover of Womens Basketball in the state of South Dakota from the Coyotes of Vermillion.
That's pretty good. At least you understand this board encourages humor in smack.

I truley think there are some Jackrabbit fans that are disappointed that tickets will be at a premium for this game. Reason, because those same fans want other Jackrabbit fans to pretend that USD doesn't exist as competition for SDSU. As much as some of you would like to think otherwise USD is gonna be SDSU's biggest draw of the year for either men or women and that is after not playing for 5 years. Most SDSU fans care about the USD game #1 in priority over everything else as will be proven by the turnstyles. 100 years of tradition will not be rubbed away in 5 short years. Granted in the womens games SDSU had a significant upper hand. For mens USD and SDSU were the two programs that dominated the NCC for the past 15 years. There is good reason for SDSU fans to not want USD in the Summit because they will be one of the threats to keep the Jacks from winning Summit titles.

I will admit I will be watching this game closely. I will also admit anything less than a 20 point win will be disappointing. Lastly, I agree with CF, I do see USD as a threat to Jackrabbit dominance somewhere down the road. The very fact that there is now two Div I programs in the state of South Dakota bothers me. I never wanted USD to be Div I and hope they fail miserably and return to Div II.

Re: State vs U Getting Close

Great wins for USD over a UND program that is poised to burst onto the DI scene and become a dominant force amongst the independent ranks. Allow me to digress.

SDSU Men's basketball records from our DII past. I started with 1990. Try to ignore the Soderberg experiment. I'm not sure about USD's results. It doesn't really matter but it points out the fact that success at the DII level means nothing as it pertains to surviving transition to DI. USD has proven nothing with their weak schedule thus far and a good showing against SDSU will further bolster that nothingness. The game this year is as much novelty as rivalry. Does that mean it shouldn't be celebrated? I'll let each person decide that. The rivalry may once again resume and only time will tell. To assume otherwise is foolish.

I'm not worried. No more than I am worried about NDSU being a threat to SDSU in football.

Unless USD's programs become carbon copies of SDSU's, right down to coaching philosophy, such that USD & SDSU are recruiting the same players for the same reasons, there's not much to worry about.

CF, I've defended you at times but you got some seriously flawed pretzel logic that I think probably even confuses you.

Here's how you started this thread:

"I expect SDSU will be much more ready to play in the game because USD wants to make it apparent that they will not be a threat in the Summit League." (bold added)

So, to sum up your theories encapsulated in bold, USD is trying to trick SDSU fans into thinking they're not a threat by losing, while some of the same Jack fans want other Jack fans to pretend USD isn't competitive, a fact which everyone will understand about four minutes into the game?

However, doesn't that acknowledge that the SDSU Fans in the middle know exactly what you wily coyotes are up to?

C'mon, this is simple: Play the game, take your loss and the check, let the rivalry resume, and work as hard to make it competitive as the Jacks did through the years when Yote fans sat on the sidelines blowing rasberries and saying it would never happen.

For those with USD diplomas reading the board, barristers don't work at Starbucks.
