Re: Guess Who Can Beat Cal Poly and Guess Who Can't
This thread started with no attempt at humor (attempts at humor in smack by opposing fans are appreciated) and has petered out so I think I'll close it.
Talking about USD fans' fantasies has gotten boring. Perhaps we could shift the topic to global warming, accounting principles, geometric equations or some other comparatively lively and relevant topic.
A guy I can see eye-to-eye with. Remind me how the coyotes faired against SDSU the last 15 years of DII? I can't seem to remember the specifics........
Coyote Fan should have never started this thread on your board. It was an ill-advised decision on his part.
Now, as for the content on this thread, I will never, ever support SDSU winning in anything. The lovefest makes me wanna puke. I am not sorry, I do not like SDSU. There you go, I said it. I, for one, took a position.
I hope SDSU loses, and I hope USD wins. What is so wrong with that? I don't hate you, I just don't want you to win. See the difference?
I cannot wait for USD and SDSU to meet each other on the gridiron once again instead of debating in fantasy world (aka Al Gore land).
Have fun in the playoffs, we'll see you there when we're eligible.
GO YOTES!

This post is so full of things I disagree with, its just easier to make a blanket statement for me and say I disagree with all of it.
EDIT: And another thing, I love Al Gore. But because we don't talk politics around here, I will keep my political statements to myself.
Second EDIT: When I say I disagree with all of it, I mean I think the exact opposite.

If both fan bases learned to pull for each other, then obviously shut that off when we played each other, we would be miles ahead.
Exactly! Why can't I root for the many South Dakota student athletes at USD to succeed, except for when they play SDSU?
South Dakota is such a small state that it's pointless to root for one institution or the other to fail, whether it's in athletics or academics. I grew up in Brookings and was indoctrinated into the feud as a child. But I'm over it. If I can get over it, anybody can.
I'm an Iowa graduate, too. And when Iowa plays Iowa State or Minnesota, I want the Hawkeyes to win. But do I hate the institutions? Of course not. That is the part that just doesn't make any sense to me.
That's not to say that there weren't real grievances in the past. There were. But that's the past. I wish we could build a healthy rivalry, based on what happens on the field and court from here on out. If you can't do it for yourself, think of the student athletes from both institutions. They deserve a respectful rivalry.
What it comes down to is turning the other cheek. Some fans (from both institutions) are going to be stupid. Ignore them and don't use that as a reason to escalate the stupidity.
My position on this board has been positive towards SDSU athletics. NoVaJack is entitled to an apology, and has been sent one. The note is personal, but I wish to convey one thought. If both fan bases learned to pull for each other, then obviously shut that off when we played each other, we would be miles ahead.
I have strongly supported SDSU athletics this past year on this board, and have done so because that's how I believe it should be. I think (2) schools successful in SD speaks well for the state. When I typed that note, it was an unfair attack on NoVaJack personally speaking.
Ther post started by CoyoteFan was in my opinion ridiculous, but who knows, maybe he was just trying to start a little friendly fire on here. If so, then it is what it is. If it was started with the intent to SMACK you on your own website, then it was done in poor taste. But after I have supported SDSU for so long, I felt the beatdown and belittlement of USD, the Great West was a bit to much. So I fought back. Hence the words in the debate with NoVaJack. Again, I have personally apologized to him, so I hope he accepts it for what it is.
Do I think we will play Minnesota to a 3 point game next year, I doubt it. It's a funny game as we all know. I think you should be proud of the Jacks performance, even though "a loss is a loss" is the postion of some on here, I think it's not warranted. You held a Big Ten team to a little over 200 yards offense. That is damned impressive.
I will try to stay off the smack section trying to defend my school. My temper got the best of me. I have enjoyed the banter and debate on here, and as I have said before, your board is far more active, and I love talking sports.
No hard feelings on this end... Folks, it's only sports. We COULD be sitting on a hill in Afghanistan or patrolling some back alley in Basra.
