That is terrible. There's just no room for that kind of thing in this day and age. My point in all of these kinds of discussions of the rivalry is to end the ugliness from both sides. There is a continuum of badness here where some things are worse than others. And SDSU fans have participated in the stupidity as well. I have no doubt of that.

Nonetheless, none of that kind of stuff, from either side, is acceptable. Root for your team. Cheer louder than the other guys. Anything else is just stupid.

Save the "we are pure" speeches for another day. My wife was called four different absolutely inexcusable names, and one guy reached up and grabbed her. Really classy. I write it off to drunkedness. Please don't be so frickin naive as to believe that your students and fans are role models, and Satan lives and operates out of Vermillion.

I have posted this before, but I will NEVER take my wife to a game in Brookings again, and nor would she go. Not after her experience there. Take your cheap shots at USD and the DakotaDump (as you call it), but for the love of money stop placing yourselves on this pedastal. You have the exact same problems every university has.

You all have changed my mind, I don't play SDSU anymore. Ever. Not because they wouldn't be great events, I am tired of your pious attitudes regarding how frickin holy you are, and how perverted USD fans are.
Easy there chief! Your on tilt!

I'm like others and feel bad when these kind of events happen. They just shouldn't. Cheer for your school but don't make asses out of yourselves.

Yoteforever, you have to excuse me but please spare me the crap about how we have this pious and holier-than-thou attitude or how we put SDSU on a pedestal and put USD down. This is SDSUFANS.COM for crying out loud. If you are so upset about all things SDSU then what in the sam hell are you doing on here? USD has earned its reputation and there is only one way to change it.

There isn't anybody on here placing SDSU on any pedestal. I am guilty of beleiving that the way things were run at the Dakota Dump was the bottom of the barrel! The incidents are all documented on here. You could line up 'Yote fans to bring some stories as well but this isn't an argument you are going to win!

My hope is that things improve on both sides and the rivalry is a great things again.

      GB, GB, GJ!

        Re: AD Live Chat

I've been staying away from posting on this thread...but have just a couple of things to say. Yes, there have been stupid acts by both student bodies (I had some USD students pound on my car window and flash the finger at me after a game), but that didn't bother me at all and was not what the problem was down at USD in later years of the rivalry.

I have PMed YoteForEver on the worst night I ever had at the Dome, and it was an inebriated female USD administrator at fault. In fairness to Pres. Abbott, we wrote to him, and he assured us that would never happen again, and the person in question is no longer at USD.

But what was most distressing was that the crowd control at the dome in basketball was abysmal. The Coyote Crazies were able to stand at the end of the row of our basketball team's chairs and the filth they threw out was crazy. After complaints to security, they would usher a student out and up the stairs as we watched, and ten minutes later, he would reappear in the Crazies section. Finally, when students working the game were wearing the porno t-shirts of the Coyote doing the Rabbit, I was blown away. That led to an editorial in a weekly newspaper by the publisher who was there and who said he would never take his family to a game at the dome again (and he was a USD fan, just not an alumnus).

Please note that I said in the first paragraph, "what the problem WAS". I believe that will change and those problems won't exist in the future, as the Summit League and Commissioner Douple are very clear that they expect visiting teams and fans to be treated respectfully. I also think President Abbott will hold firm on better security at games.

          Re: AD Live Chat

Individuals with allegence to either school can come onto this board and post back and forth forever about what happened in the past. I'm not trying to tell anyone what they can or can't do on this or any other fan board, but this constant rehash of this offense or that offense from the history of the rivalry has got to stop. It serves no purpose.

The past should not be forgotten, but it is just that - the past. We should all learn from events in the past history of the SDSU - USD rivalry - both the good and the bad points that have occurred. But the most important thing is the FUTURE of this rivalry.

I have said since the first rumors of USD moving up to DI that I was looking forward to the restoration of the rivalry, but I hoped that the time off would allow it to return with a new attitude. There can be an intense rivalry that also includes a mutual respect.

I'm not preaching here - I enjoyed picking up my Jackrabbit yard sign and hanging it over my office door to torment the vocal USD graduate who sits facing it. I support and perpetuate a hard nosed rivalry - including jacking up the opponents fans to a certain extent. I may even participate in a "Screw the U" chant if it starts at the basketball game in February, but I will not in a personal way attack any USD fan, player, coach.

I also don't think this is a difficult distinction. I can personally vouch for the fact that whenever the Jacks play against USD I want to beat those guys so bad. But at the same time, I can talk to a USD fan, player, coach, alum, etc without having any issues. All it takes is a little perspetive in my opinion to have at the same time a hard-nosed rivalry between schools and respectful interaction between people who support those schools.

I'm not saying that anything posted here didn't happen and I'm not trying to diminish the effects of such childish, cruel acts. But at some point the past has to be let go of - not forgotten - but let go of so that energy and effort can be put into the future.

The future of this rivalry is in our hands, and I'm afraid that if we hang on too tightly to the offenses of the past it will lead to a search for an opportunity to crack back at the opposition instead of looking for opporunities to support our two fine but very different universities.

I think the thing for everybody everywhere to remember is when you stop having fun and start being nasty, you start being an ass. Unfortunately, no group of fans are without those few who think it's fun to be an ass, and occasionally good folks make mistakes and cross over into asshood.

            Don't be an ass.

Some of the best advice I've ever read on the internet. I'll try to keep it in mind but may need a friendly kick in the ass once in awhile. Just my own observation now, alcohol seems to contribute to crossing over that asshood line. Anyone else notice this?

Good stuff JG. I am willing to admit here, publicly, that I'm INTERESTED in USD athletics. When they're not playing us, I want them to do well. Why? As I've said before, there are a lot of local kids on those teams. And who would want ANY South Dakota student athlete to have a bad experience? I viewed Mick's blog during the USD game last night and enjoyed it. I want to feel about USD the same way I feel about NDSU. I want to beat them if we play, but I might even root FOR them when we don't.

And before anybody questions my yellow-and-blue patriotism, I grew up in Brookings and have witnessed everything the rivalry had in it before, ugly as it was. That was then. This is now. If USD can police its venues, I'm willing to turn the other cheek.

Yeah you can put it in the same category as drunk-texting and drunk-dialing. When one wakes up in the morning one will most likely utter something like, "Oh man, what the hell was I thinking calling her/texting her/posting that on the message board?"

                      Order of emotional reaction =

"All I know is what I read on the message boards."
"Oh, well, there's your problem, then."
