    Re: AD Live Chat

I do not know Joel Neilson period and he is not my fourth cousin or something like that, but I suspect that in the chat he was trying to put the best spin on the discussion. I dont think it would have been helpful to apologize for things that may not have happened on his watch. I am not sure how long Joel has been at USD. His precessors Kelly Higgins and Jack Doyle seemed to be worthless when it came to crowd control. This is how these things happened and continued to get worse. Maybe that is why they are no longer the AD's at USD.

Say what you want about Dr Oien's problems, but one thing for certain he believed in having crowd control.

If it's worth it maybe some letters should be sent to Pres Abbott at the U. You know start off welcoming the u to the Summit League, butter him up a little then start blasting about the conduct at the game mentioned and how that behavior might affect attendance at the dump from State fans if that type of behavior continues. Abbott is a good guy and family friend and I'm sure he would listen and take steps to correct the problems.

As a Sioux fan, I have never had a problem attending events in Vermillion. I can not say that is true for all schools. The only school that I will not go to attend an event is SCSU. All other schools (USD, SDSU, NDSU, UMD, MnktSt. U of M) no problems. But, other schools might be more prepared for UND events because of protesters at the events. SCSU is a very interesting place to visit ONCE!!

Nothing to save, the decision is being made by the right parties. Things have been very quite I think that is because of the tribal elections. I am sure we will hear more in a couple of weeks. But, I think that UND will not have a nickname until around 2011 or 2012.

Sorry, I did not mean to side track a good USD/SDSU smack fest.

You all talk as if SDSU is the "Behavior Capital of the World." I read each and every one of these and although I won't condone whatever behavior you say happened in Vermillion that night, in my mind nothing will ever come close to the night my wife was both verbally and physically accosted in Frost.

Save the "we are pure" speeches for another day. My wife was called four different absolutely inexcusable names, and one guy reached up and grabbed her. Really classy. I write it off to drunkedness. Please don't be so frickin naive as to believe that your students and fans are role models, and Satan lives and operates out of Vermillion.

I have posted this before, but I will NEVER take my wife to a game in Brookings again, and nor would she go. Not after her experience there. Take your cheap shots at USD and the DakotaDump (as you call it), but for the love of money stop placing yourselves on this pedastal. You have the exact same problems every university has.

You all have changed my mind, I don't play SDSU anymore. Ever. Not because they wouldn't be great events, I am tired of your pious attitudes regarding how frickin holy you are, and how perverted USD fans are.

I think even Satan would pick a better 'trailer park with a campus' to live in than Vermillion.

First off, I'm sure whatever happened to you and your wife at that game has happened at many rivalry games at plenty of universities across the country. If a fan is going to attend a rivalry game on the road, sometimes the consequences are name calling and being confronted by drunk college students. But as a fan, you have a choice not to attend these road games.

I have never attended a game at the U, because I never wanted to be put in these types of situations. As a fan I have a choice not to go to the games.

The difference between your situation and the situation the SDSU's women's BB team faced is that Student-Athletes don't have a choice of attending these events. It is mandatory that they attend and it is the responsibility of the host university to ensure that security is in place.

It is my understanding that this occurred at the last game in our series and therefore USD was never given a chance to redeem itself by providing better security than it did. The U will have more opprotunities in the future and I hope they take this issue more seriously than they did at the last meeting.

I am sorry this happen Yoteforever. I certainly dont feel like defending the guilty parties, but yes we have immature people in Brookings too. I see them every time I venture into town from Arlington. I think as adults we should not applaud this kind of behavior and better crowd control is the answer in my opinion. Will I ever come to Vermillion? Probably will.

There have been pathetic incidents at both schools. The difference between the schools lies not with its fans but its leadership. A good example was the infamous situation regarding the sale of t-shirts stating "Beat State, Not Your (fill in the blank)." At SDSU, the administration would have stopped the organization from selling the shirts. And, if those shirts would have shown up at a basketball game, security would have asked the wearer of the shirt(s) to either take them off or turn them inside out. Not at USD. Their response to the situation (per what was quoted in the press) was a weak, spineless, mealy (sp) mouthed, "Well, it is freedom of speech."

My wife and I were accosted on the street outside of the dome after a game a previous year. You don't hear me whining about it, the guys were drunken idiots. Your right, it happens, it shouldn't but it does.

What we are talking about here is mistreatment of our student athletes in your building while your administration just looked on. I'm not advocating returning to your building, you have been. I can choose not to return and I have never returned. Our student athletes are now required to return and they deserve much better.

Call me pious or holy or whatever you want, I'm not going to disrespect your student athletes and then try to justify it by describing isolated incidents among fans. I'd say you are the one who needs to take a hard look at how you are perceiving things. See it how you want to, what I am describing happened and won't ever be forgotten by those who were there to witness it. I'm not upset at you or average coyote fan, I'm upset about the way things were handled by your administration that night.

Will I attend the games in Vermillion in 2011? I probably will and I'll most likely have 3 young children with me. We will sit in the visiting section amongst adults and I anticipate we will be treated respectfully. I hope the same can be said for our student athletes and based on comments from fans and players who have been to the dome recently I expect our athletes will be treated better. That doesn't change what happened that night.

Amen! With that said, I am confident that USD will do a better job next time as the Summit League isn't the NCC.
