Why did Oien deserve the criticism? Since when does a family problem become a public issue? You seem to have forgotten that Dr. Oien offered his resignation that was turned down by then President Miller simply because she had compassion for her employees who have domestic problems, but are valued employees. Oien worked very hard during the transitition and SDSU would not be outdrawing the bed pan folks(augie-usd) for a football game, 6545 to 5500 on a balmy Oct day were it not for the leadership of Dr. Oien. Folks from USD wanted Oien and Miller to fail in the transitition to D1. As far as I am concerned its not sterotyping. USD has been playing the role of Second Hand Rose in trying to compete with SDSU for decades. Its about time someone came up with a clever tee shirt. We need more of these. When usd finds a way to be classy, I just might respect the bed pan folks.

Don't forget that the USD Augie game was during the day and that took even more hunters out of the stands compared to the SDSU game being played at night which would have salvaged more of those fans. This was not a home game for USD so don't critisize their attendance. I can't remember the last time USD drew under 7,000 for a home game. If they did it wasn't by much. USD doesn't have the really large draws but the attendance numbers are much more consistant than what SDSU draws. I guess SDSUers are more of the bandwagon variety, oops I guess that can't be true since the wagon has never really gotten rolling very fast. Maybe I should say fair weather fans, literally.

Do they have a class down at the U where they teach their students to rationalize everything other people do, but they can do all the stuff the preach against doing??

I need to take that class.

USD students might get rowdy at times and have a little too much fun with t-shirts but at least they stay within the law down at USD. Maybe SDSU should build a law school to teach SDSU students what is legal and what is not.

Aug. 31 - 7,050 - Quincy
Sept. 09 - 5,211 - Minnesota-Crookston
Sept. 16 - 6,133 - Minnesota-Duluth

Then there's the first three home games in 2005:
Sept. 03 - 5,329 - Truman State
Sept. 10 - 6,166 - MSU-Mankato

And in 2004:

Be careful pointing fingers Each time you do there are 3 pointing back at yourself. We don't need a law school in Brookings. Most of the problems in South Dakota and nationally are caused because of too damm many lawyers.

So according to that logic it would also be ok to where a shirt that said "screw the reservations" same difference. Or to be more like a t-shirt that said I would hate to be (and have a picture of a reservation) on it. How about screw farmers, or screw irishmen. Those wouldn't be attacking an individual either. When you wear that t-shirt you are basically saying to screw a whole university and stereotyping all the people that have ties to it. At least the Oien shirts were directed at an individual that frankly deserved the critisism at the time. Actually saying I would hate to be U is worse than saying screw the U. People would probably take more offense to it.

I am not a person that really gets offended by stupid stuff like that. I believe in freedom or speech and/or expression. I favor UND in their fight against the courts for wanting to keep their nickname. If UND says it's not offensive and it's not slandering someone then legally it should be ok for them to keep it. It's not like UND is burning a flag with an indian logo or anything like that.

Basically what I am saying is to take a stand and stick with that stand. Don't be a hypocrite or a flip flopper to satisfy an argument or a bias way of thinking. If you don't like those types of t-shirts don't like any of them. If you don't like controversial nicknames or logos don't like any of them not just the ones that get headlines. Like I said I am of the opinion that just about everything goes when it comes to t-shirts and like issues of such. If someone gets offended by it, thats there problem not the problem of the initiater of the offensive behavior. Not that I go around being controvesial, just my belief.

Hello... read my post again, slowly and carefully... I was expressing opposition to the "Sucks to be U" t-shirt and any t-shirt that demeans the opponent, whether it's the team, the institution, or an individual. As I said, root FOR your own team, not against the opponent.

Read it again, if you can... your grammar (don't you mean "biased way of thinking"?) suggests reading comprehension isn't one of your strong points.

Of course this is a road game for you, so none of this counts.

What? You'd rather have steady crowds of 7,000 than an AVERAGE of 9,700 (as we had last year) or nearly 12,000 (as we have this year)? That's just more tortured (road games don't count) logic from a deluded Coyote fan. Go try that one on d2football.com where Coyote fans have bullied everybody else into silence. Doesn't work here.

Yes, like when USD students broke into SDSU's women's locker room during our last game at the DakotaDump and crapped all over in the showers. Perhaps breaking-and-entering and public defecation is legal in Vermillion, but most places it's against the law, not to mention outside the bounds of decent human behavior.

And it's a good example of USD's excellent crowd control.

You're game was also in Sioux Falls, (population 150,000) against a Sioux Falls school while SDSU played against a school from California last weekend that brought maybe 100 fans, and we still outdrew you.

Also remember a few years back when you ragged on SDSU fans for "only" having 7,000 fans at our game against UC Davis in Sioux Falls.

Hmm, thats only 1500 more than USD and Augie got for their rivalry game...

Face it Coyote Fan, the support just isn't there for USD right now, no matter how you want to spin it.

I'm thinking that what's going on here is understandable. USD fans are finishing up their triumphant run in D2 and realizing that a whole lot of uncertainty faces them starting next fall. At the same time, SDSU is finishing up its transition, moving into two new conferences and settling in for the long-run. USD fans are no doubt realizing how far they have to go and they hate the fact that SDSU is ahead of them. They can't rationalize away a transition period. They can't get back the last five years. So they rationalize everything else.

It's understandable. And if the shoe was on the other foot, we might find ourselves making the same specious arguments and outrageous rationalizations on a former rival's fan board.

But we're not in your position. Sucks to be U.

I reserve the right to be both an unabashed supporter of SDSU and at other times critical of things I don't necessarily understand but that I think I don't like or agree with on a website designed exactly for that behavior. Is that logical MJA or just confusing?

What do I think about this thread, I think it sucks to be U. Thats just how I feel. SDSU is bigger, better, more fun to attend and support. Again, these are my opinions. If you don't like them, I don't care. I understand how U fans feel but I don't need their insecurities rationalized in front of my eyes. It's a waste of my time. Envy does odd things to people, things they often don't/can't recognize.

I would have to agree with MJA on the logic issue. I have been trying to figure out how to refute all you separate errors in that logic but it was way to long of a post, so I decided to just try this one.

You state that making the reference against an institution is the same as making the reference against a race. Members of an institution have made a choice to be affiliated with the institution, and most importantly have the choice to disassociate themselves with that institution. Members of a race cannot do either of those. So how is it the same?

Ask around at USD, and you'll find somebody who knows about it. It happened, and it is a big part of why we're not scheduling USD any time soon.
