NCAA Division II Playoff Field Does Not Included 16th-ranked South Dakota Football Team

The 16th-ranked South Dakota Football Team was not selected to the 24-team NCAA Division II national playoff field, according to an announcement on Sunday by the NCAA Division II selection committee.
The Coyotes, which defeated fourth-seeded North Dakota, 42-30, at the DakotaDome on Saturday, ends its season with a 9-2 record, including a 4-2 mark and a share of the North Central Conference football championship.
The Division II football playoff field, which does not include any automatic berths, includes 24 teams selected on an at-large basis from four regions (Southwest, Southeast, Northwest and Northeast).
In the Northwest Region, the national selection committee picked Grand Valley State (10-0) as the top seed with Nebraska-Omaha (9-2), the second-seed. Fifth-seed Minnesota-Duluth (8-3) will play at fourth-seeded North Dakota (9-2) on Nov. 12 with the winner traveling to Grand Valley State on Nov. 19. Sixth seeded Northwood (10-1) will play at third-seeded Saginaw Valley State (10-1) in the other first round game on Saturday. The winner of the Northwood-Saginaw Valley State game will play Nebraska-Omaha on Nov. 19 in Omaha, Neb.
Interestingly, the last time USD won an NCC title was 1978 when the Coyotes shared the crown with Nebraska-Omaha. Like that 1978 team, the 2005 Coyotes were not invited to the national playoffs. South Dakota owns wins over two of the top six Northwest Region playoffs teams, icncluding the double digit 42-30 win over UND on Saturday and a 59-14 win over second-seeded Nebraska-Omaha.
