Re: I'm taking all bets that...

If you truely want to know who has the better basketball program, SDSU or UNL, you should compare the total points scored by SDSU men and women to UNL men and women head to head.

Good for you bigjake in stepping up to the permanent exile bet. Shows faith in the 'skers. I'm a little disappointed Mav#1 wouldn't take that part of the bet, but atleast he admits he enjoys hanging out with the DI fans too much to risk it.

May the best team win on December 8th.

Catch em All, You are on. I plan to be posting here for a long time. I would like to see other posters step up to the plate but after last season I can see why they won't.
Mav1- great avatar. I love Tony "aka-89rabbit" Robbins.

The most relevant point lost on Mav or BJ?  How did that happen?

Southwest gave the Gophers all they could handle earlier this week (59-50) in an exhibition game.  It was nothing but ugly for the Gophers and Southwest received no credit from Monson or the media.  It was an "exhibition".

                Definition:

An exhibition game is the North American term for a sporting event in which there is no gain or loss from whether the competitors are victorious or not in the competition. The comparable British term is friendly match.

In North American sports, exhibition games usually take the form of a handful of preseason games that are intended to familiarize teammates and get them ready for upcoming matches.

Traditionally, major college basketball teams would begin their seasons with a few exhibition games. They would play traveling teams made up of former college players or, on occasion, other countries' national teams. However, in 2003, the National Collegiate Athletic Association banned games with non-college teams. Some teams have begun scheduling exhibition games against teams in NCAA Division II and Division III.

Re: I'm taking all bets that...

You two really crack me up, you honestly believe that you got Nebraska's best game last night don't you?  It was an exhibition it does not count.  It is one step higher then a scrimmage, only in the sense that the University of Nebraska charged people to watch.

I know it is a big deal for UNO but I am sure Nebraska used that game like all D-I schools do.  After our game with Upper Iowa Coach Nagy talked about playing lots of people so that he could try the rotation combos, he also said that they have not shown much in terms of the offense in our exhibitions.  Why would you, it is an exhibition.

I know to you it seemed like the Final Four, but to the Huskers it was just a pre-season game.  Little more then a practice.

Congrats on your lose to Nebraska, best of luck in D-II, but don't kid yourself, that game ment nothing up here in the D-I ranks.  Talk about "Pie in the sky".

See if this helps you understand where we are and where you are.  SDSU opens the Season with Kentucky and you can watch the game on ESPNU coast to coast.  UNO opens the season with Presbyterian College of South Carolina and you can listen to the game on KOZN Radio if you live in Omaha.

I know in your heads you two think, wow just a few years ago we were peers with the Jackrabbits, they were in our conference .  .  . but that was then and this is now we have moved on.  Of our current Men's Basketball roster of 15 players, 13 have never faced UNO (and probably never will).  You don't know much about this year's Jackrabbits and you are not our peers.

We are D-I and you are still D-II.  Come join us in D-I if you would like, or be satisfied with what you have in D-II (heck now that the good schools are moving up you guys are starting to win more).  It really doesn't matter to us, but don't kid yourself you are what you are a D-II commuter school.  You could be more, but right now you are not, and you are not taking any steps to change that, as far as I can tell.

                  Go State!  ;D

But if you lose by more than five points then any of you "pie in the sky guys" need to come on this site and publicly state that uno probably has a better team than your beloved Jacks.  I don't think anybody on this site has the nerve to do that.  Huskers by 20.
Note to 89 Rabbit - you have got to be the flat out most optimistic person I have ever seen outside of Anthony "personal power" Robbins.  The jacks can stink up the place in basketball and lose to morningside and they can draw 5k against a legendary d1aa fb and they can have no reasonable hope of a real league and you can still find a silver lining in everything.  That is amazing to me.
PS- I will post one last time if UNL loses to give you a big mea culpa and your props.  No way is that going to happen.  I will be there for sure on that Thurs. nite
Aww c'mon. I think UNO had a great showing against a D1 team. I'm hopeful that we can play them close, too. Why does this have to be a contest? UNO can have a good team. SDSU can have a good team. But they don't play each other. I wish they did. I would love to have UNO come up to D1 with us. Maybe it'll happen someday. I tend to root for UNO because I like the university (better than that place in Vermillion). I hope they win the D2 national championship this year. I hope they win the football championship.

The only thing that bugs me about Mavs and Jake is that they can't just let SDSU make its way in D1. They have to take every little thing as a sign that we did or did not do the right thing moving up. That isn't a very realistic way to view the thing. But it's the way they choose to. I don't want to play that game.

I would like to throw my hat into the ring on this wager. If SDSU loses by less than 5, I'll stop caring what Mavs #1 posts on our (not his, mind you) board. However, if SDSU loses by more than 5, then I'll stop caring what Mavs #1 posts on our (not his, mind you) board. Finally, if SDSU wins, I promise to stop caring what Mavs #1 posts on our (not his) board. And, I'll really rub it in that we beat yet another Nebraska school in hoops. I probably wouldn't celebrate too much, though. We're used to using Nebraska teams as tuning mechanisms for our basketball teams. UNL would just be one more notch on the belt. Having said all that, my wager stands.

D3 Illinois Wesleyan was tied with the Illini 41-41 halfway through the second half a couple of nights ago too. I'm sure U of I really got pumped up for that one. Probably a lot like the Huskers did. It's an exhibition (i.e. practice) It doesnt count, and nobody cares....

That's all part of the intimidation factor.

                              Milwaukee,

Last year I was real impressed how well you handled Wayne State (Nebraska). Then a few years ago you lost a regional final to UNK (Nebraska). Need I remind you that UNO ended your Frost winning streak two years ago and spanked you a few times more for good measure. Hell, Morningside is ten miles from the Nebraska border so I will claim them as well. Keep fine tuning that well oiled machine that you call SDSU basketball with Nebraska teams and that machine will look like a clunker on the side of the road. Enjoy your arse whopping on the eighth. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
