Just saw this on the AP wire:
Associated Press - Fargo, ND - March 16, 2014
NDSU Bison fans, excited for their second trip to March Madness, are also up in arms about having to play their 1st round NCAA game on a Thursday evening. They are scheduled to play the University of Oklahoma at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 20th. They have petitioned the NCAA to have the whole tournament played on only weekend days starting this coming Saturday.
Two Bison fans have created a script to start sending automated emails to the NCAA offices. The NDSU women's basketball team is showing their support by offering to forfeit all games the next two seasons, saying it wouldn't be much different for us than the past decade. NDSU football players have volunteered to use their notoriety and experience to organize a crew to circulate petitions for "valid signatures".
One hard-hatted Bison fan was quoted in the story saying, "It's bad enough that the Summit League expects us fans to take off a Monday and Tuesday to watch our team play in the conference tournament, but now the NCAA has the balls to do it as well? Do they not understand we are the Bizon? The rest of the tourney can start on Thursday, but we'll play our opening game Saturday. Hell, we'll play a doubleheader that day if necessary...it's not about the student athletes anyway, it's about us fans. We brought 50,000 to the Metrodome, 55,000 to Manhattan, and regularly bring 60,000 to Frisco. If the NCAA wants us there, move the game."
The NCAA has yet to issue a response the request.
