You're missing out on Toby's Chicken in Meckling! We used to eat there when the Willie Mac was in Verm.

Awe you betcha, took a trip to Verm this summer just to see what was going on. The trip included a stop for Toby's. The best in 5 states. Stopped there many times coming back from Brookings and going to my home in Columbus Ne, on a Sunday afteroon after seeing a Jack football or bb game.

I was going to mention Toby's and the place over in Dallas? that had the good hamburgers and steaks, but I couldn't remember the names.

Whimps in burbank has a killer rueben as well. Apparently sayler isn't a fan of ruebens.

Cant you tell by his photo, is face reflects many trips to Toby's for chicken. No doubt a favorite smoochsing spot for boosters too. He will miss that plus Whimps in Burbank. I never taken the side road to Burbank, thanks for reminding me.

Bunyans has the best bar food in the area. Daily lunch specials are great and the burgers are awesome. Toby's chicken is damn good and worth the drive. The best steak sandwich use to be at DJ's in Volin, no longer exists. Whimps in Burbank use to have all you can eat spaghetti on Thursday nights. There are 2 fantastic Asian places downtown as well.

I heard Sayler was too good for all of them and couldn't bring himself to pull up a chair.

I can't even imagine the boredom it would take to make me drive to Verm. to see what was going on.

Best thing the SDDOT did was put the bypass around Vermillion, now if they could put up a big sound barrier wall along side it high enough to block out the DakotaBin from view.

Hey I am retired. A oil change at Postrellos in Madison and what else do you do? My significant other likes to explore towns around South Dakota, big and small. She does have a camera and loves photography. So to each and other their, but I enjoyed the day.

That reminds me of a great line Brokaw had on Letterman one night.

Letterman sets him up with one of those, "You're from South Dakota. You can be honest, there's no real difference between South Dakota and North Dakota, is there?" deals.

Brokaw says, "This may get me in trouble with some folks in North Dakota, but where I grew up, we have a saying: The only good thing to come out of North Dakota is highway 81."

So yeah, the best part about Vermillion is that you can go around it really easily (which is, now that I think of it, one of the better things about Brookings too...think about it. North side bypass, goofy half-interchange on one side of town, big ugly stadium on the south side of the road--of course, CAS started off as half of a barn that didn't get finished. The Dakota Dome was supposed to be a sludge digester, but it wasn't big enough to handle all the crap that comes out of USD, so.....................)
