This is not an excuse, but the Bison did push Arizonia to the end of the game and lost by 3 I believe. This tells me that we beat a very team.

Arizona State. But yes, the Bison are very young, but very talented.

It was actually Arizona St that they lost to. Ari St is 6-13 right now. They are near the bottom of the Pac 10 and some of the mid majors they have lost to include Pepperdine, Fairfield, Nevada and Northern Arizona.

Unquestionably. Coverage of ORU's win over Xavier was front page stuff. The FCS win was on the ESPN and SI sidebars, and AFAIK didn't make the Yahoo sidebar.

Not to take anything away from the FCS championship which has left me quite green (the only thing that tempered it? Shellacking the women's team--again--and beating the MBB team, also the unconnected but quite enjoyable Green Bay loss)

No to take anything away from NDSU, but Arizona State would struggle to be a middlin'' Summit team... Their RPI is in the 220s... They got pounded by 3-14 Utah by 20 points last night.

We should have beaten the Sun Devils. They hit a half court three at the buzzer to win. It was pretty ridiculous.

3-15 Northern Arizona beat them a week after they beat the Bison.

Looks like I need to back pedal off the Arizona State comment, but I think the Bison are still a very good team.

Making the Big Dance is great, but there have been a ton of mid-majors that have made the tourney. Winning an FCS Championship is so much more exclusive and people will remember who the National Champion was. Making the Dance is something that fades in the public's memory pretty quickly since it is not exclusive at all.

                          Debateable.

I already don't remember who won the FCS championship this year!

Mid major level I would say depends on what your school is consistantly better at. Say if ndsu wins a few fcs championships and maybe we only get the playoffs every few years yet we make the ncaa tourny more consistantly I think it makes a difference.

                              What 'people'?

I'd guess it's the same 'people' in both instances: Fans and fans of other teams in the same conference for a few years at least.

The rest of the 'people'? To paraphrase Jane Austen, 'the world in general would have too much sense to care'.

ORU got more press for beating Xavier than NDSU got for winning what is, basically, a lower division title.
