I'm not sure about their hockey jerseys, but I think all their other clothing just says UND or North Dakota.

Quite frankly, I don't think they've completely decided on how to handle everything. I overheard a conversation at an NDSU sporting event in September where the topic came up. This conversation included some very, very top members of NDSU university and athletic staff. Someone asked how NDSU was going to handle the Sioux issue for the upcoming NDSU/UND volleyball and basketball games. The response was that NDSU was going to follow UND's wishes, but those wishes seemed to change frequently. Sometimes they wanted NDSU to use the Sioux name and logo, then it was only the name without the logo, then it was neither, then it was just the name again. In the end, I think UND asked for neither, since I only saw them referred to as UND at the volleyball game.

After this athletic season, they will only be referred to as UND or North Dakota for around three years. During that time, a committee will meet regularly to see if a new name should be chosen and when. It's possible(but unlikely) that a new name will occur spontaneously and later be officially sanctioned. It's far more likely that the committee will choose a new nickname after two or three years.

    Current possibilities:
    - Roughriders (TR connection and link to the western half of ND)
    - Flames (unlikely, but a flame is UND's academic symbol)
    - Spirit (UND's new fundraising campaign is titled "Ignite the Spirit" - it could catch on)
    - Flyers (doubtful because of the NHL franchise, but it would be a link to the GF Air Force Base)
    - Flickertails (UND's nickname before the Sioux - not going to happen)
    - Force (I think they had planned to use this one until the junior league Fargo hockey team chose it; if they fold - doubtful - UND might grab it back)
    - something to do with oil for the western connection again

I'm guessing it will be Roughriders or something not on this list.

Okay, for our purposes it will just be The Defeated.

Bottom line, our student athletes who work their tails off, deserve better than a fair-weather fanbase.

      Go Jacks!!
How do you monitor it and do so in a precise manner? I not arguing against the student athletes by suggesting attendance is not important, it is. The staff seems to be very busy on game days as it is and to have to stand around and count heads may not work. BTW I plan to see my fifth home game this coming Saturday. I arguing against the practicallity of counting heads and awarding pts based on this count.

The ticket takers now at the Basketball games have electronic monitors. So in essence they could keep track when your seats (wether you or somebody else are sitting in them) are being used.

*they currently don't use those monitors for football games yet.

I don't think that anybody seriously would think that the athletic department would be taking attendance by counting heads like grade school.

But, attendance should be a partial factor in reallocation each year.

I glad you said parial factor. Cause attendance whether you like it not is determined pretty much by the product on the field. Winning is everything in athletics, if our SA teams stink on the field you do not draw the casual fans. So in putting attendance as a partial factor, one that is not easily measured imo is without merit. To suggest that this was like grade school is an insult to me, and I Told you what I thought of that in a private message.

I agree that there is an ebb and flow to the attendance when it comes to the casual fan, but how many of those casual fans are season ticket holders and how many of them are GA type tickets.

I don't believe that any single factor should be soley used in reallocation process, but unfortunatley I don't forsee the current system being tweaked at all.

Now that I have calmed down and given this some thought, your idea has merit. If the staff has devices that can readily get an accurate count and account with limited record keeping then this might be workable criteria for allocating seats. Those were my main concerns. I really am not worried about losing my seat on the fifty yard line since I have rolled up a bunch of points over the years for annaul and monthly contributions through electronic funds transfers. If attendence were a factor of criteria in determining allocation, I could take the next 10 years off and never watch a home game and still have my choice when ordering season tickets. Attendence would only add to my total since I have 4 home games to my credit and plan to be their Saturday. Next year will be no different.

If this is an incentive for those who are recent season ticket holders and on limited budgets and attendence counts towards better seats in the next allocation, then it would be a good thing for them and might encourage others to buy season tickets. So contrary to some of my comments, I think this might be a workable idea.
