Re: Coyotes Now Ahead of The Jacks!

SDSU already has the "SD" initials in common use with its stretch logo and initials on clothing and other surfaces. I guess we could claim that makes the Jacks "South Dakota's team." But why limit our claim to South Dakota? Nothing wrong with thinking bigger.

As far as South Dakota's team. Look at attendance figures.

One question, why do many USD fans measure the U-dot's success only against SDSU? I would think a comparison against peers would be more meaningful. U fans may want to look at Cal Poly for comparison?

I guess, USD beat Cal-Poly last year and Cal-Poly beat Montana yesterday! Does that mean anything????

One thing that USD does that I wish SDSU did is open up the offense. Jeebus I wish we did that.

You can also make a pretty serious case for the Yotes being ahead of the Jacks right now considering the performance put up by the boys from Brookings today.

It won't take long now for the Coyotes to officially become South Dakota's TEAM!
PS - by your idiotic logic, NDSU is light years ahead of SDSU in FB as well. Good thing they sometimes settle things on the field. Go Big! Go Blue!! Go Jacks!!!

Re: Coyotes Now Ahead of The Jacks!

If a signature win makes a program then by all means USD is ahead of SDSU but still behind NDSU who has multiple FBS victories. I would hope fans would measure their programs success by sustained progress on the field of play and in the classroom. I know I'm bringing too much logic into a smack thread, but seriously. SDSU fans are heaping praise on USD and they in turn decide to chime in on how they are now king of the roost in Dakota's football. Accept praise when given and check back in at the end of this year and the subsequent four years to see how your transition has gone.

And in terms of USD's head coach being gone after a monster season...might want to check with NDSU's Bohl to see how beating Minnesota and having a 10-1 season did for his job situation. Just sayin'.
I updated my signature for the first time in six years.

Does the SDSU win over Wisconsin in 1935 count in this race?

I think the USD board crashed. Must've been more than 5 people viewing at once Anyway, just returned from the Cities. Unbelievable. I think USD's win provides important validation, particularly as the Coyotes search for a new conference. I'm not on here to boast or talk smack. I'm certainly proud, but I think SDSU and USD both have lots of things to be excited about. A determination of the "better" team is decided one way, and that's obviously not happening this year. I think some diehards on these boards tend to imply that USD is FCS in name only -- that USD traveling to Brookings or Fargo is akin to a lamb going to slaughter. With a rollercoaster transition -- a win at Poly and a thumping at UNI -- those are fair positions. But in light of yesterday's victory, I think most reasonable people would now agree that USD is not a joke FCS program. It's one game, yes. But USD proved it has the elements to compete at a high level. Now it's all about sustaining throughout a challenging season. Soooooo many more thoughts. But I'm exhausted and massively hungover. This message is surprisingly not being sent from the Hennepin County Jail.

Nicely put Yotemeal - we've disagreed in the past and will do so in the future, but you are right on. Again, congrats on a nice win - and the nice press that comes with it! Now - Go Jacks!!!!!

Excellent points. Let me say I'm quite jealous. I shudder when I think about the trouble I might get in when SDSU upsets a FBS school.

As for the meaning of the result. Just as you say, it clearly validates USD as a FCS program and does so early in their existence at this level. I thought the win over Poly last year was the first step and this win is a clear continuance. It also confirms that the U of Minn football program is in shambles and needs to go in a different direction. You can't lose to NDSU and USD and nealry lose to SDSU while barely scrapping by the rest of the season the last 3 years and be satisfied.

After the Jacks poor performance on Saturday and the stunning victory by the coyotes I think the title of this thread is indeed accurate, for this week that is.

All it takes is a win over a Big 10 team and a Coyote fan comes out of the woodword. How many other Yote fans are going to be interested for about a week, only to not attend one home game this year?

Sort of reminds me of when USD used to beat us in BBall. All the yoties would yip for a little while. 3 weeks later SDSU was still filling an arena while crickets chirped down in Vermillion.

The win was impressive in its own right, enjoy it while you can. As we learned on Saturday (and against Cal Poly, Montana, and NDSU) success and failure at this level can be fleeting and deceptive.

USD will officially be South Dakota's team when they have a higher attendance figure for the year than SDSU. (unfortunately, that could happen soon if the Jacks don't start playing better...)

Re: Coyotes Now Ahead of The Jacks!

Coyotes should enjoy the victory. I sure would have if SDSU had taken care of Minnesota last year.
Scheduling in transition is not an easy task and USD had to settle for a NAIA opponent this coming Saturday. The week following will be the Yotes real test as they head to the FargoDome. Two teams with FBS victories will meet.

I listened to the UNI-NDSU game Saturday and after the big win at Kansas, they were having a Delaware like game against UNI. Total Rushing yards minus fourty, because the NDSU QB was sacked several times. The solid appearing defense of NDSU against Kansas was no where to be found on Saturday night. UNI has an interesting running back Carlos Anderson who with the right blocking schemes can rack up yardage. UNI spells trouble for SDSU the week after we face the Cornhuskers.

Teams change from week to week, so the USD-NDSU game will be indeed interesting. Does NDSU re-group and put the yotes in their place or do the Coyotes prove again that they are ahead of the Jacks?

Not USD Smack, but rather Minnesota smack...

In 2010, the Gophers are 0-4 against South Dakota.

0-3 against SDSU Baseball, 0-1 against USD Football.
