  • Carl Pohlad Passes Away

It has been announced that Twin's owner Carl Pohlad died today at the age of 93.He will be remembered for saving baseball in Minnesota and bringing two World Series titles to the areaEven though people always wanted him to spend more money on the team,he was a good owner.Too bad he will not get to see the opening game in the new stadium in just over a year.

Agreed. As a fan, he was frustratingly tight with his money, but I don't think 1987 or 1991 would have happened if he hadn't bough the Twins from Calvin. Thanks for the championships, Carl ...

Are you sure, these two articles lead me to believe he was an Iowa native? Either way....sad news indeed.

Hey, it wouldn't be the first time I had my facts goofed up. I know Joe Robbie who owned the dolphins was from SD and maybe that's where I am goofed up. I just thought I remembered him having South Dakota ties.

          Anyone else know?

I know during the Depression, he foreclosed on people's homes, maybe it was in South Dakota.

            I kid, I kid.

I'm not sure about ties to South Dakota. People are going to be bashing on him because he always tried to find a way to make a buck but in the early 90's he was a very good owner and did some other good things like start the Boys and Girls Club of Minnesota.

Pohlad's Marquette Banks chain had a few branches in South Dakota. I recall one at the southeast corner of 26th and Western in Sioux Falls.
