Liriano was not ready to start when the season started because he played for the Dominican Republic in World Baseball Classic and was used as a reliever. Hence, the Twins brought him along in the bullpen (essentially to substitute for the missed spring training) until he was ready (and the Twins were desperate for quality starting pitching).
Silva has seemed to regain his sinker and Boof is not afraid anymore......Garza and Baker have struggled, but contributed. Now that mighty, 12-game Detroit lead is a feeble half-game.
