  • Minnesota Pro Sports Teams - Championship Drought

Had a shower thought on Minnesota pro sports this weekend - it is likely that in my lifetime (~40-50 more years), the championship drought will continue.

Twins - even with new ownership, I have no confidence that the Twins will win another championship in my lifetime. I vaguely remember the 1987 championship and can still recall being hounded on the bus after game 3-5 losses to the Braves. However, the Pohlands have shown that they are happy with the current revenue and have no want to spend for more championships. I don't see a new owner changing that.

Timberwolves - if it doesn't happen within the next 5 years, I don't expect on to come. I would be surprised if the A-Rod ownership group keeps the Wolves in Minnesota without a championship in that time.

Vikings - again, if it doesn't happen in the next 5 years, I don't see it happening. The Vikings seem to take a while to cycle back from rebuilding and their big moves (Cousins) don't pay off.

Wild - No specific reason here, they just don't feel close. Not sure that they ever will feel close.

I thought this might be a fun discussion, so what are your thoughts?

    Edit:

If you add the Lynx, I expect them to win this year or next year, so maybe that is good enough?

The Twins may need to trade a player or two for pitching, which is ironic given how that was a strength earlier in the season. Hopefully new owners change the trajectory.

The Vikes could be a dark horse this season, particularly if McCarthy surprises, but if he falters, that just means they can draft Gronowski next year

Current ownership of the Twins won't make the move. If they are serious about selling, they won't take on more salary for a championship.

I believe the Vikings will have Jefferson for 2-3 more years, 5 at the max. That is my reasoning on the window.

I can still hope for Twins

That timeframe would also coincide with McCarthy's contract expiring, although who knows what cap would be by then.
