Sent in the correction. I'm guessing they couldn't care less, but we'll see.

Blake is not getting a ton of work for the Nationals, but appeared again on Sept. 10. His ERA is 2.18 over 13 appearances and 41.1 innings pitched. His record is 2-3 and he has walked only 11 while striking out 26 batters. What a good experience for Treinen.

He might get the start tomorrow. Nats just clinched the NL East. Treinen is a division champ!

You think Treinen will make the post-season roster?

I doubt it, many times they will drop a pitcher and add a bat.

I'm not sure how the rules are any more, but they use to be able to keep 4-5 guys in the dugout who could be added in case of injury, I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of those.

Very unlikely - I would put him at about 15th right now on the pitching pecking order (not saying he is the 15th best pitcher, this is a rating of his relative use to the organization in the post season. He is probably the 10th best pitcher in the organization now. But he is not left-handed or a late-inning specialist, or a closer, although some think he has closer stuff. Simply put, right now he is the sixth best starter in the organization. Those guys don't make postseason rosters.

He IS getting the start tonight, as I suspected - the hangover start. Gio Gonzalez partied too much last night and so Treinen gets the ball for a hung over club.

Nats owner Mark Lerner just told team broadcasters that the trade that got Treinen from the A's might be the best trade that GM Mike Rizzo has made; calls Treinen an essential part of Nationals future.

                      Re: Blake Treinen

outstanding outing tonight by Treinen, 5 IP, 3 hits, 1 walk, 3 ks, leaves leading 1-0. Barely threw 50-plus pitches. If Nats can hold lead he stands to win. But then Detweiler comes in and gives up two hits right off the bat.

Treinen's ERA is 1.95 over nearly 50 big league innings

If they were starting Blake because they are looking at their post-season roster, he surely did a good job. Whether or not he makes it, I'm sure he is going to be a valuable asset to the Nats.

He pitched well, you can make the argument that he deserves to be on the roster, the problem is they haven't used him much in the last 3 weeks which makes me think he is not in consideration as of right now.

                            Re: Blake Treinen

According to the game write up on ESPN.com, the manager Williams expects that they will need Blake to make another start before the end of the season (Double Header on Sept 26th), and they wanted to be careful not to push him to hard tonight since he hasn't been throwing many pitches lately.

Not sure I would put a period there yet. WashPo says this morning he made a case for the post-season with last night's performance, albeit still a long shot. His right-handedness is obviously against him; long shot, yes, but to state it that flatly is overstating it, IMHO.
