  • Northern State Men's Coach to speak in Mt Vernon March 26th

    College Basketball's All Time Winningest Coach is coming to Mount Vernon, SD.

    Mark your calendars for Friday, March 26th as Northern State Men's Basketball Coach Don Meyer will be the featured speaker at the Annual Mount Vernon Father/Son Banquet. Fathers and their sons from across the area are invited to enjoy a great night of fun, featuring entertainment and inspiration from 2009 ESPY Award Winner Coach Meyer.

    Tickets are going fast and are on sale for only $8, which includes your ham or fish dinner and entertainment, and are on sale now at Wermer's Lounge, Westy's One Stop, Mount Vernon Gas and Oil and CorTrust Bank, all in Mount Vernon, or by calling Rod Pattison at 605-999-1804.

    Not to take away from Coach Meyers in any way, but he is not "College Basketball's All Time Winningest Coach." There are two active coaches with more than 1000 collegiate wins. One is Pat Summit at Tennessee and the other is Harry Statham of McKendree University. Coach Statham has all his victories at NAIA schools, Coach Meyers has both NAIA and NCAA wins.

      No matter how you cut the mustard, all of these people won a bunch of games and knew what they were doing.

        Maybe, perhaps. None of them may have known what they were doing. When you win, its the players, when you lose, its the coach.
