  • BREAKING NEWS: Brad Salem...

Just heard from an Augustana players mother. Brad Salem just told the team today that he accepted a job w/ Michigan State. Wow.

Hopefully he will keep his hands off of SD kids when it comes recruiting time.

I've had a bad feeling that with the success of SDSU and the growth of Sioux Falls that FBS schools like Minnesota, Iowa, & Iowa St are going to start plucking out some good talent out of Sioux Falls.

Not sure the title yet. They are still in team meeting as we speak. Aldrich is the new HC at Augie.

I have to say, after hearing several local players and their families speak very highly of Salem and what a good recruiter he was, I called this. In fact, one current SDSU players father told me, if all things were equal, they would have chosen Augie over SDSU b/c of Salem.

Well that got out pretty quick. He must have told KELO last night and told them to sit on it until after the meeting.

Not surprising as he has a good coaching pedigree and lots of family connections.

As with everytime there is a coaching change, I feel bad for the kids who just signed their letters of intent to play for Coach Salem.

Debating this w/ a friend...what's the better gig?

DeBoer being O-coord at SIU or Salem being RB coach at MSU?

You could argue either way. Lot's of positives for both. Extremely difficult decisions for both to leave their head coaching positions.

MSU...it's the Big 10. Not to discount SIU, but it's the Big 10. I'm guessing better pay, better perks, better everything, except more pressure and less job security. If things go well there he's got great opportunity for upward mobility. DeBoer on the other hand I would imagine having to go from OC at SIU to a less than coordinator job at FBS in order to advance. Salem took one step out of the equation.

Had a chance run in with Brad's twin (Brent I believe) a little over a year ago. He got out of coaching and said he'd never go back. Hated the instability, hours, pressure, etc. and has been encouraging his brother to look at the long term of getting out. Obviously hasn't gotten through to him yet.

I'd go with O-Coordinator at SIU although it's probably pretty close. The next step for both would probably be O-Coordinator at mid-level FBS school or head coach at a mid-level FCS school.

SIU. once lennons recruits show up for this year,( or would it be next year? has he been there 3 years yet?), once those players bring down the SIU level, Ken will be head coach.

I tend to agree w/ CatchEmAll.

As much as I like SF and So Dakota and all, I would like to think I would stay at Augie and that new stadium, new facilities and build a dominant D2 while recrtuiting locally.

I give the slight edge to Salem. The Big Ten means first class everything. No bus rides to Brookings. MSU is an above average program. DeBoers next step would be Head Coach at SIU, a pretty solid gig. But if he is eyeing the FBS level then his next step is a position coach, like what Salem has. There is word that Nebraska (Pelini) at least talked to Kalen about a position coach. Not sure he would have been picked over a Tim Beck. Beck is their current Tight Ends coach and they took him from Kansas. The thing about Beck, where DeBoer isn't even close to matching up, is that Beck is a big-time recruiter (former elite Tx HS coach) in the state of Texas. The other guy Pelini brought back was Brown, who coached under Osborne for 17 years.
