yeah I agree, I know Notre Dame is the butt of a lot of jokes but Brian Kelly an Irish Catholic, someone told me growing up an Irish Catholic you think of 2 things, the Kennedy's and Notre Dame football....

the money part doesn't hurt but I think it is different then Nick Saben, when he would just leave jobs for the heck of it.... Kelly wanted to be at Notre Dame....

And, if he pulls off the turn around Brian Kelly is not only a hero at Notre Dame, he is then "The Coach that Returned Notre Dame to its Rightful Place in College Football". Or equivalent overhype title dreamed up by ESPN.

With the resources and recruits available to Notre Dame he should be able to get them at least an at-large BCS game every year.

yeah his name would be put up next to Knute Rockne and Frank Leahy (who is from Winner South Dakota) which ironically the baseball park is named after him....

Other than I suppose monetary reasons, I don't understand how this is a "promotion".

I guess money usually rules the roost.

And Cincy still has to play the Sugar Bowl, seems real classless to leave before the "season" is done.
Coaching Notre Dame is the elite job in college football, just as managing the Yankees is in Major Leage Baseball. I love Notre Dame, but the Yankees still suck.

No, it still is. Look at how much talk this situation gets on our own SDSU fan board. Is that the case with any other open coaching position in major college football? Like at KU where they just hired the guy from Buffalo (Turner Gill).

I'm going on the record that I'm far from a Notre Dame fan but it is hard ignore they are an elite college football program. This news alone will put them in next year's preseason top-25 which comes to mind this GREAT YouTube video:
