  • Iowa State plans to salute its opponent

    Kansas City Star:
When Iowa visited Iowa State two weeks ago, the Hawkeyes got the visiting rival treatment from fans — boo! No news there.

What is odd is how Iowa State is asking fans to greet its next visitor.

The school requests a standing ovation for Saturday, which goes against fan nature. Maybe booing isn’t your thing. But showing respect for the opponent taking the field?

Saturday’s guest at Jack Trice Stadium is Army, and nothing could be more appropriate. Same holds true when any of the service academies pay a campus visit.

I don't see a problem with this. I think the service academies are a special case that could deserve special treatment even from oposing fans.

I was about to vehemently disagree with this, until I saw they were playing Army. Totally respect that. Class.

Same thing has been going on before and after every game for every opponent at Nebraska for years. Funny how it's news at Iowa State.
One hand points to campus...the other to the liquor store.

Good move by Iowa State. I might have to stop calling them the 'Clowns for awhile. Which I probably should anyway, I prefer to save that term for the toolbags from Lubbock, TX.

I remember when A&M (my other alma mater) played Army the last 2 years we nixed one of our Yells. Didn't feel right Yelling "Beat the Hell outta Army" anyway.
