    Re: USD at UNC

Reminds me of the Gonzaga fan board, we were kind of hogging all the comments so i said" don't mean to do all the talking on your own forum"The answer i got back was, you've all heard this one, " we let our teams play on the court do all our talking for us, this is not our first time in big games" (the implication being it was our first time big game)"
So, being the wise guy i am,(i was actually just kidding anyhow)i said "ok...fine , you don't wanna stick your neck out"
Wrong thing to say, i was gently reminded that " that type of "trash " talking was reserved for high school juevenile's
I guess it's hard for some people to pick up on someone just kidding around & someone actually being obnoxious.
Yes, in the name of peace & harmony , i let the situation drop by not replying back.
But some people are really sensitive for thier teams & i respect that.

      1) Per Mick's article today, it was originally scheduled for December

      2) USD is a non-counter anyway, so some degree of 'exhibition scheduling' can be expected.

      3) Crazy part?

USD made 14 3s. North Carolina had never before allowed that many 3s

That's why I'm happy that USD made it so close. UNC needed to get a scare at least, and preferably to get beat for their arrogance in scheduling this game in the first place.

We'll see how competitive USD will be next year when you get to play a full D-I schedule. I think your women will be pretty competitive (I've got a fairly high opinion generally of women's basketball in the Upper Midwest vs. the rest of the country).
I think it was a smart move by UNC. Obviously there is a long stretch from their conference tournament to the NCAA tourney. They got a game in and i'm guessing their coach was thrilled that USD played it close.

If the yotes felt they were getting dissed, they shouldn't have scheduled it in the first place.

St. Mary's (CA) Men's BBall Team also did the exact same thing. They scheduled a game with Eastern Washington after their conference tournament. But obviously did it for other reasons; hoping to get the Tournament Committee to see that their star point guard (Patty Mills) was back from his injury and their team was good enough to get selected as an at large team.

            From Mick's blog entry:

What the Coyotes did on Sunday was provide yet another ringing endorsement for how women go about playing basketball in South Dakota.

Not sure when the St Mary's V EWU game was scheduled, but the UNC v USD game was moved before the season began.

It was scheduled only a couple of weeks ago when St. Marys needed to try and prove that they were worthy of an at large bid.
