  • Player's brother wanders onto court (Providence)

Did you happen to see this on ESPN? Unreal:
The announcement came four days after Jonathan Xavier, the brother of Providence guard Jeff Xavier, came onto the court during the second half of Saturday’s game against Marquette. He was upset no foul was called after his brother was scraped in the face.
    "I think we'll be OK"

Have to agree with the 'no-call' on that one. The brother coming out of the stands is a little concerning. There's more talk about the bad behavior of "fans". I suppose we'll see more efforts to control fans by penalizing the teams (e.g. more technical fouls called for bad crowd behavior).

I remember a few years ago (maybe many, don't remember) when some rabidly angry fan at a MLB game rushed the field and attacked an umpire. It made big news for a few days. Now, it's just fodder for message boards on the interwebs. That's just sad... But I do look forward to seeing the commentary on the next episode of Sport Soup...

I remember another one, two crazies at a White Sox game, father and son, got drunk for the kids birthday, if i remember correctly, and attacked the Royals first base coach

That be the one. Any recollection of the year and the extent of news coverage? I do remember it being at the top of the news broaddcasts, front page of the Bismarck fishwrap, and being the talk of the town for a little while. Problem is - it's been long enough to fuzz my memory a little bit...

I can't think of the year but I wanna say either 2002 or 2003 but I could be wrong. Pretty sure ESPN led with it, not sure how much they covered it after that though

Nice catch - didn't notice that one. Maybe it speaks a little bit about the sort of fan base they have at that venue???

Another thing about this phenomenon... People talk a lot about how goonish hockey is. At least the fans at Charlestown Chiefs games were polite enough to wait in the stands for players to come to them...

OK, I know I'm running the risk of turning this into a USD smack thread, but does anybody remember the State U game at the dome a few years back where a USD player was fouled hard on a break-away lay up and his Dad ran onto the court. I can't remember but who that player was, and was it a little bit more than dad going out to check on the condition of his son, my memory is a little foggy on that one.

I think whats more stunning is there is actually an arena called the Dunkin Donuts Center.

Whats even more stunning is ESPN running European Soccer scores on their ticker. Only kidding, fan behavior is a very big concern, from the little league dad fighting the coach because his kid doesnt play, throwing beer bottles at games, and everything else that goes on. It's like when some people go out to the game they leave their brain at home. Is it going to end up like Europe with wire screens from floor to ceiling between the seats and the courts or stands and the fields to keep the players and fans apart, or like some big cities where the schools play their games with empty stands to keep the trouble away.

Or they drank all the beer in those empty bottles they are throwing to even know what they are doing.
